how do you make the small boxes (that you can double jump off of) with the same textures of the big boxes?

Do the same thing as the link talks about on all the faces. The procedure in the link will only scale one face at a time.

Yes. Or you can click the face you want to scale in the 3d view window, hold the control button and move the curser in different directions to get the size you want.

Yup. The texture will look smaller and you will actually be able to see the full crate texture.

you need to scale each face separately. unless.....
make a cube in a 32 unit grid using the crate texture. press "s" then in the boxes that have sx and sy type in 0.5 press alt l and walaa
