1. Can't blame the Saudi's as we get mroe oil from Canada then SA
2. Can't blame the oil companies as their profit marjin is under 10%

THe issue is supply and demand.

The tree huggers need to die so that we can drill where the reserves are and try to get an influx of local crude in to the economy then the government has to allow for more refineries.

3. Increase the number of nuclear power plants.
4. Allow drilling in areas currently forbidden from drilling.
5. The federal government makes more on a gallon of gas  in taxes than the oil companies.

Ah, good points.

Ever seen or heard of the Glenn Beck show? He makes a lot of good points.

Heres a link if you want to check it out: http://www.glennbeck.com/

But yea, I know we have a lot of oil in Alaska but won't drill because of polar bears and fish. DON'T WANT TO KILL THE POLAR BEARS!. Heh...

The value of an SUV went down by so much. Hmmm.

People make a HUGE issue over the profits of big oil.  Look at their margins.

Your typical retailer, at least here in the states, typically maintain a 40+% retail markup to make a profit.  Could you imagine what gas would be if big oil did that?

How does everyone feel about the gas prices?

I was just thinking about this as I filled up for $4.50 premium.  My old neighbor in Seattle says he's paying $5 for premium, sheesh.

The local Shell station near me was up to £1.14 a litre of regular unleaded a couple of days ago. When you say $4.50, surely thats not a litre?

'66 Barracuda, it was raining and I didn't feel like putting the top on the Jeep.

$4.50/U.S. Gallon (about 3.75 liters)

Gas was what...$1.20 or $1.50 a gallon before Bush went into office? Obviously he messed something up :P

I get about 20 mpg on regular and 28 mpg on high-octane with my '72 AMC Gremlin xD

1975 - 2000

USA was the world's largest economy followed by Japan, Germany and China.

2000 - Present

USA is the world's largest economy followed by China, Japan, and Germany.

For years we've relied on China for cheap labor, during the 60's and 70's the Chinese had bicycles.  They've had so much business from American manufactures, a growing percentage drive cars.  As KnacK said, supply and demand.

I was hoping the high gas prices would push technology further, but instead, people thought, "Hey, let's burn corn!" and now it's driving food prices up...

Costs me about $150 to go play paintball with my friends in the Charlotte area now.

Ethanol SUCK!

Now with that beign said, I'd loveto punch the guys lights out who thought it would be a great idea.

1 year ago I averaged $6.00 per 50 pound bag of horse feed.  Now, I'm paying over $10.00 per bag.

WHy? It has CORN in it......

And yet we still offer subsidies to grow corn.......

Wonder why the price of beef, milk, cheese have gone up?

THey all come from cows....

THEY EAT CORN!!!

The same people that want ethanol want CFL's...

GUess what?

CFL's are considered HAZARD WASTE!

You can't toss one in the garbage!

Legaly, you have to call a hazmat company to dispose of it.

God help you if you break one.....
* KnacK could ramble on and on about this..........

They're bad. Drilling in places we aren't allowed to will only solve the problem for 50-100 years, if that. I think it's time people in the US finally start re-evaluating their vehicle choice and usage.

In other news, %10 PROFIT on a massive, world-driving business is huge. Way too much. I'm all for a progressive put-regulations-on-the-market/businesses sort of thing.

even though i can't drive yet i am still pissed off at the prices. i mean when i become old enough to drive how do they expect me to pay for gas. I can't save up for an apartment, pilot's training and gas. its bullexcrement!

The question is, when will any of the vehicles like these be efficient enough (speed and duration of travel), cheap enough, and available for an American car shopper to pick one out over a gas guzzler?

Don't think all electric cars are slow like that one, in Japan they've had fast ones for a while, there are electic motorcycles that do 200+ mph, but there's no way I could afford a Tesla Roadster as my 2nd car.
