Ubuntu Help
« on: July 12, 2008, 09:23:24 PM »
I installed Ubuntu on my external hard drive, and now when I disconnect it won't boot into XP. Is there anyway to get rid of the GRUB bootloader thing, and go back to the original XP boot thing? Any help will be much appreciated.

You should always install GRUB on your first HDD.  Either way, there is a utility in the Window's Recovery Console to restore the original boot loader ("fdisk \mbr" I think).

Also, Google is your friend;)

XP should be on Grub when u install it, unless u installed it on a diff HDD like Zorch said.  Just add it onto your grub menu.  Thats what I did.  And if you use XP more make it the default option.  I can't remember how to actually add it but you add it here:  \boot\grub\menu.lst

You have to SUDO to that location with gedit or it will not save, must be opened with root privledges.

Thanks for all the help, and I got everything back to normal now.

It's hard for google to be my friend, when the school network blocks it.  ::)
