Author Topic: Micro ATX Motherboards (Read 4096 times)

I recently recived a really old computer from my sister, and now I'm in the market for a new motherboard. My budget for the motherboard is something under 100$. All of the mb's need to be micro ATX sized, and able to connect to an ATX power supply.

My primary uses will be:
-Casual Gaming (dp, portal, tf2, etc.)
-Video/image editing (Photoshop CS3, Adobe Premire)
-mapping with .bsp
-school uses (Microsoft word, Research on internet)
-different opperating systems (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, openSUSE, Windows XP, Vista (all prefered)).
-possible modeling (blender)

The AMD one will suit your needs best. AMD is more suited for multitasking and graphics display.

Just pointing something out real quickly: the playability of fairly recent games like HL2 is determined by more than just the motherboard. You will more likely than not need to buy a graphics card too.

I guess, but the thing is, I would only get AMD when on an extremely tight budget, which I am not really on right now.

I don't plan on doing much multitasking on the computer, mainly seeing as it was just something I could intercourse around with over the summer. Although I plan on making it into a server computer or possibly a temporary desktop.

P.S. Spell check is terrible, whoever put it together needs to go back to school.

AMD isn't just for people with a tight budget. Intel is cheaper. If you plan on making it into a server, go AMD and Linux for the OS.

I believe that he is referencing some fanboy sites that state the AMD cpu is better for multitasking in games.

At least that's the only thing I can find.

If I'm wrong, I better return the 100k of Intel servers I bought last year and get AMD's.

Well, Intel's obviously the right choice for you because servers and such don't have to multitask/thread AT ALL.

AMD is more suited for gaming and what not. Maybe not servers. I have always disliked intel because they are the biggest commercial manufacturer and I have always had trouble with them in the past.

In that case, I am most likely going to buy that one with that graphics card. Now all I need to do is find a processor to go with the motherboard. Any suggestions?

Because it's only 5$ more, and a lot better...

The fact that the Intel processor you gave me is a Pentium D doesn't fly well with me. I like that I can achieve 4.00 GHz with it, but it's still a Pentium D.
