I really doubt that the poles will switch on that day, or even in that year.
Or even for a couple hundred years, at least. Though it seems to be a fast process (and we are, apparently, overdue), I think we'll get decades to centuries of warning before anything serious goes down.

i expect instantly, but the effects will happen slowly. Like going 50mph down the highway, then switching into reverse gear, it will take a while to go the other way.

haha, well, I'll probably end it when I'm close to releasing the map...which is tough to estimate as Reed would rather play Phoenix Wright on his Nintendo DS than help me. A couple of weeks yet at least.
