What do you guys think is the best video game ever overall (except paintball ofcourse). Id say a very close match between CoD 4, Oblivion and Final Fantasy Crisis Core.

CoD 4 was stunning, but for me the greatest game of all time has to be Fallout 2.

Toss between Quake and Quake 2: Both before my time but I have bought them and grown to love them. The huge range of mods, custom maps and the communities still alive today are part of the attraction but of course, keep in mind that the games are just sheer, mindless fun. Especially with the new ports and updates to make them look better.

I don't think any of the early FPSes really qualify-- though they were the first, they can't come anywhere close to the polish and playability of modern FPSes.

Anyway, Portal.
Quake 3 was the best Quake-- UT99 was the best UT. Halo 1 was the best Halo, and pretty much defined all future console FPSes. Starcraft is by far the best RTS in that it has a large following, and with good reason. I can't say anything about MMOs, though.

Chrono Trigger was the best RPG/Story game I've played.

As for FPS games... there are so many different styles that a lot of it comes down to individual preference. I think COD4 is one of the most polished games and it can be pretty enjoyable to play, too.

Metal Gear Solid 4. one of the deepest stories of any game I have played. It had an awesome ending too. and the gameplay was awesome. the graphics were amazing. the online play is good too. the game also has a factor most games dont have. replay value. even after beating it I want to play the story again.
