Happy birthday Mr.DP

I started playing shortly after the move to Q2.
Cal, Jits, and Nutekit(sp) were the staff at the time.

There were only a handful of maps. The standard release maps, and a few that people had just began making. Everything was great right up until Crates (by Fryth i think?).

The clan to beat was Smurfs, hands down. Fembot was, to me, the best player at the time.

I remember one fine day going to DPCon2 in WashingtonDC, or VA or somewhere there abouts. This poor 15 year old kid that had worked so hard building model and creating graphics for DP had no way to make it there. So I turned an eight hour drive into a 13 hour drive and swung by and picked him up. What a different time that was where a mom and dad would let a virtual internet stranger take their 15 year old son away for a weekend LOL.

I remember we had to stop at a truck stop and buy some tarps to cover our computer equipment because it started to snow on the way.

Fun times.

Femmy was the one of the ONLY ones with internet access faster than isdn. (he had a T1 at his house from Bell South. He got it for work, but he was a news group sexually promiscuous personmonger)

No one had dsl. Cable modems were few and far between.

Awesome, i'll try that when I get home from school. Its funny how the menu's are still q2 based in it. When did that change?

Happy birthday DP, fun times. Brings me back to the software mode days. I don't think any game has or ever will come close to creating such a tight knit community of players. Many thanks go out to Jit, Cal, and everyone else involved in the creation of one of the best games ever made.
