Reasonable Map Ideas
« on: August 28, 2008, 10:00:05 AM »
Hey I know I made a thread like this before but didn't feel like bumping it and most of the ideas weren't reasonable. Anyways does anyone have any reasonable map ideas that I could use as I can never think of good ones preferably not urban as then I'd have to make textures on mass even if I used the CTP textures.
Speaking of textures no I didn't foget Vic I have just been very very very very very very very very very busy!!!!!

When I was in Kansas City back in the mid 90's, I played paintball in a cave.  It had a hard surface to walk on but the rest was rock.

Thinking along those lines, doing a larger cave, with some huts and maybe a small creek/water seepage might be neat.

Here's a vid of the cave:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px64cpFFkDQ

Maybe you could do a silo-ish siege map where the attacking team starts above ground and has to race down a silo and grab the flag, then take it to the launch room to cap.

Wow, that looks like a paintball2 level!  Didn't know there were real fields like that.  Is that a real cave, or is it synthetic?  That echo really makes me want to work on improved 3D sound.  Hm, is that not even on the feature vote yet?

As for ideas - how about a simulated "urban" map - like what you'd see on a real field with a bunch of buildings made out of plywood and 2x4's?

Why did you model it out in quake 1? Or was that a pre-existing map.

Jits,

Yes that is a real cave. I guess a better term would be cavern.  It sits along the missouri river and the caves themselves, the parts that arent used for paintball, are used for storage.
Apparently the area of KC is littered with these limestone caves.

Heh. I don't think that's a quake engine. HLDP, perhaps (which is quake-esque, but shut up)?

Yeah, saw that. But that looks way too nice to just be Quake. The textures are too high-res, those barrels are either bumpmapped or just have lots of detail, the lightmaps are way too nice, etc, etc.

I'm still going with HLDP. :3

You can load skyboxes but it's still quake-style by default.
