Honestly.... if you guys are going to remake an older map do it right. Espcially one like shazam... All you have to do is realign like 3 brushes and add some lighting that doesn't take donkey rooster in the ass. Or, you can go the other approach... totally meddling destroy it.

It's not bad for a first map, but it's really bland overall.  The whole map is pretty much uniformly lit, and there's no detail in the rock walls or anything.

Also, you need to just register an account.

Jitspoe, how do i get more detail out of your poor ass textures?  Also, all I know about lighting is what radiocityland teaches.  How do I add lighting to specific areas of the map without adding lights?

For lighting, your best bet would be to use the sunlight feature.  If you only want to light specific areas, well, you're pretty much limited to adding lights.

As for detail -- I think what you need to do is try to make the rock look more like rock.  The best way I've found for doing this is to throw some blocks up against the walls and start slicing chunks off of them with the clipping plane tool (much like slicing chunks off of a block of cheese with a knife).  For an example you could look at the bombsaway .map file I posted (search the forums).  The layout is extremely simple, but with a few clipped brushes, it looks a lot more natural.

I figure if it's going to be the most popular map on pub servers, it should at least be lit properly.  I asked Rez for permission, so here it is:

http://dpball.com/files/maps/shazam33.bsp

The only thing that's different is the lighting.  I just hex edited the sun angle and sent it through arghrad.  This is meant to replace shazam33.bsp, so don't give it a different filename.  Clients will automatically re-download it.

Nothing fancy.  It just has some light/shadow now, instead of being uniformly lit.

The only time i play it is on Superman's sweet no respawn server.  With those pro settings I'll never enjoy it.
