Server mods.
« on: October 25, 2008, 10:37:19 AM »
I'm a server hoster (home server), and I was wondering, are there any mods that I can put on my server that controls settings automatically? Kind of like Iron Mod. It would be nice to be able to work peacefully on my computer without having someone msn or xfire me to change the map. LOL

EDIT: I just noticed vague's thread about changing maps automatically, and I want to clarify, what I'm looking for isn't just for changing maps, I mean like minor cvar settings, timelimts, grens etc, stuff that wouldn't mess up the server in any way.

There's only IronMod and mine, neither of which are available at the moment.

If you want a server mod, I believe you have to write it your self, from scratch.

ah, I thought someone would say that. I have pretty much NO experience with coding, so that won't be happening anytime soon.

Perhaps the match tool sk89q wrote would do what you want?  You could also give people login to the server so they could change maps and cvar settings.

Or you can go to your map rotation file and change it to the maps people like best, thats probably your best bet right now

I know well enough about server rotation files, thank you very much Prime 24. LOL
But yeah, guess I'll just wait until someone decides to post their mod codes. "cough"iron"cough". XD

What exactly are you trying to do?  If it's something the game can't already do, you could add a feature request vote for it.

What I mean is something extremely similar to, if not exactly the same as, "IronMod". Something that could manage your server without you actually having to be in front of it monitoring everyone's actions. People tend to want to change maps, and it's really annoying always having to check in the server once in a while (to make them feel welcome) and help them change the map.

Isn't there a mod out there for voting, like you type vote and what map in the console and people vote on that map and if you win it changes, but the game code setup if diffrent than normal, but the voting thing might be cool for an add-on option.

I think you're describing "rock the vote." Other than adding more low-level admins to your server, I can't think of anything analogous in DP. I think there's already a semi-recent similar feature request, though.

I wonder if anything like beetle's mod or mani mod would be compatible with q2 engine. If it is then that would probably be really helpful.

This will all be made a lot easier if and when the gamex86 code is released in whole or in part. I've tried making a laser tag mod but I've spent most of the time removing quake2-specific media references that paintball doesn't have.

http://www.webmin.com/

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, someone made a plug in for webmin that allowed for the remote server administration of a counter strike server.  I believe the same could be done for a dp server, but you would have to write your own plug in for it.

Hm, sounds complicated, doesn't really look like what I'm looking for though. Thanks anyway.
