Global Profile Statistics
« on: December 16, 2008, 02:25:46 PM »
I've seen a few similar requests, but most regard some sort of a rating system.  While that would be nice, I could also go for a system that just tracked simple statistics, like total kills, kills with each gun, number of deaths, etc.  If the system also kept track of accuracy, this would decrease much of the lining that ruins maps like shazam33, etc.  This has always seemed like the one feature that pb2 just should've have but hasn't.

I'm pretty sure that your first post of this was deleted for a reason.
As in, this may not be the exact same as the other votes to the finest detail, but it is basically the same thing.

Deleted?  I don't recall my other post being deleted...  I posted that I moved (restarted) it here because I thought this was the correct section, but I misunderstood that, so you can go ahead and delete this one if you want.  But I don't think the original was deleted.
The difference is that jitspoe wouldn't have to implement any sort of ranking system in this one, just a tracker.

People interested in this should consider voting for the following (I never even noticed it until now):

"Additional machine-readable logging for commands, chat, connects"
http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=11167

This would allow for people to implement their own global statistics systems.

I really need to make a post relevant to the logging issue. I've been meaning to do so for a while. Hopefully I'll find some free time...

Hmm...  that would be one way of doing it.  Kind of like personal stats, then, not stored in a central database?

This feature request suggests renovating or replacing the server's log format so that it contains information which can easily be translated into game statistics, like HLStatsX does. There's already accuracy stats, etc. which can be logged, but none of this is in a particularly agreeable format. This is the only barrier to a decent statistics website like you might find with HLStatsX/PsychoStats.

As far as the logging format, there's a lot more details I will hopefully write about in the future, which are mostly oriented towards keeping logs friendly for remote storage and dealing with updates to the format that would occur over time. I say this because I don't feel so awesome about redirecting people to vote on logging when there is not yet a concrete implementation plan.

I've toyed with the idea of making a statistics compiler, and I was almost going to do it a month or two ago. I re-wrote my StdLog parser in Python for another project, but then things came up and I lost the desire. However, winter break is here, so I might whip up something. If I still ran my own server, I would be more motivated, but alas, I don't anymore. I also get the impression that the only two server admins that really still care about their servers are SuperMAn and T3RR0R15T.

I see.  So the reason statistics haven't been implemented yet is the logs aren't in a conducive format for it?  It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to write a program to reformat them, so is the real problem making pb2 store them in a better format from the start?

yep. we still have to convince jitspoe to work on that instead of stuff like vwep.

Ah.  Is jitspoe the only developer?  Or is there a team that he can delegate some of this stuff to?
