« on: December 24, 2008, 07:10:23 AM »
Memory allocation failure

This comes all the time when i want to compile for lightning.
Search function = nothing.

Give it any other compiler?

I got it once when i tried to light a really large test room that was wide open. Maybe the map is too big, or you can wait while it compiles, so you don't take up the computers memory while it compiles :P

Yeah, that means your computer doesn't have enough memory to handle the compilation. You could always hand it off to someone else who's willing to compile for you, assuming their computer is good enough. :P

I stated this in dagless' grave2 thread, I am more than willing to help people compile maps if they need it, my computer can more than handle anything you toss at it. I have 8 gigs of RAM, so it would be a miracle if I got that error too.

Other things you can try:

- Scale up textures.
- Make sure you're not using phong shading on a lot of surface area (I think sand is phong shaded by default).
- Try different -chop values.  -chopcurve and -chopsky can make the biggest difference.
