Check this out for a network simulator.
It's all freeware.
We've been using that for a couple weeks now.
It's a pretty solid emulator.

packet tracer is actually really amazing.
Haven't played around with it to much but when I did fool around with it, I was impressed.
I got a subnetting assignment to do later on and would appreciate you guys taking a look over it when I'm finished:)
