Introducing #dp2pug - Pickup Game Channel
« on: March 14, 2009, 08:34:16 PM »
Recently I have noticed that in many other games there are easier ways to get 'match style' games going. For example when I joined quakenet for Warsow I instantly noticed that there were many pickup games going.

I realize that this idea was used several years ago, and it worked good. It got people on to play and got more people used to how match style play works. Better maps and better players easier will help this game, and this is #dp2pug is trying to do. Get newer people into play faster.

Anyways, idle #dp2pug. I am currently working on a bot similar to old one where people can type '!join' and get added to the list. When 8 people join someone will get server and '!addserver (connect -serverhere-) then the match status will change. Refer to topic...

'(  #dp2pug  »» Pick Up Game »» CurrentStatus: No match - connect ' '  )

Need some help on the scripting for IRC.

EDIT: I would LOVE for the Euros to get involved in this. Also we have a vent to use for the PUGs. Hopefully this will help pull people into the community.

Channel has a good amount of idlers. We had a 8v8 go for a couple maps earlier tonight.

Bix, if you're looking for scripting on irc talk to either Br55HiT or Xbain they know how to make some scripts.

Yeah I am looking for scripting. There was an old bot that worked great for it.

Yeah if you're cool with Xbain he would make one for you. I know Br55 is good at it.

I'll hit him up. Right now I am most interested in getting newer players, good players, euros, americans, etc idling the channel. Hopefully #dp2pug will become a resource that will help the DP match scene along with being a possible asset to the tourney scene. Everyone has halfops currently.

I want A LOT of idlers and I want A LOT of people involved. Maybe we could have something in the #paintball topic/onjoinmsg sending people to the channel.

mmh... a very old idea.. but still a good one.

Maybe you should ask bitmate , he made a bot, which do you want like 2 or 3 years ago for dpger.de (german community)

Going to talk to Br when he gets around. With timezones/languages it will probably be easier.

I've played in 2 pugs so far from this and it's been amazing. The first time was normal maps with like 8v8 of all good players. The second one was a bunch of old maps for 5 minutes each. I had to download over half of them, but some were pretty cool. What made it fun was the fact that everyone came on vent, SuMMit made a channel for the dppug. It connected the top  clans with the lower clans. The vent that was used and i assume will be continued to be used for this was: IP: ventrilo9.chi.powervs.com PORT: 5053

Thanks to bix and everyone else who put the effort in making this.

Hope this keeps people playing, pugs are great for people who don't like the 'pressure' of matches. Maybe a couple of weekly pugs at certain times might be good as well?

Looking for a script where people can type !join and be added to a list. When eight people have joined someone will be prompted to get a server by the bot. Then a person can type !addserver 'connect asdfsfa' which would then update the status of the topic. When the match is over someone can then type !endmatch or something which will put the topic back to its usual status.
