Testing old serversettings in matches?!
« on: March 18, 2009, 01:29:58 PM »
i played a lot of other games in the last 2 months. And each first-person-shooter has the same kind of match type.

1. You can only spec your team, if you are dead.
2. If you shoot a long time, you shots will have less accuracy.
3. If the matchtype is CTF, you cant do a cap exchange.
4. If you shoot at your own teammate, he ll get damage.

So and then i played DP

You can spec everyone
You can shoot as long as you have bullets
You can do a cap exchange
AND you cant hit your own teammates.

Mmmh.. WHY?

So I'm a pro if i shoot 200 shots against a wall and kill 3 guys ? Or if i spam 20 times in a second my loc-bind-key?

Its just ridiculous.

So I decided to ask YOU, if you wanna match against us (#darkness) with following settings :

- chasecamonly 1
- flagmustbeatbase 1
- guntemp_inc 13/14 (13= with carbine 19 shots, 14 = 16 shots)

and maybe:

- ffire 1

We just wanna test this style of matchtype, because we think, it would be sth new/old and maybe it would revolutionize dp to a better game.
If many clans like it, we would organzise a cup/ladder with these settings.

Because, if you play with these settings, you definitely need more skill than today.

Please post your opinios into this thread.
If you wanna match us with this settings, feel free to ask us in #darkness

We're probably up to test it with you guys. I don't really wanna state an opinion before testing it.

I like your settings, but ffire would not be a good idea for this game, especially with how sporatic the grenades are sometimes.

The problem with ffire in this game is that you die with one shot, so its really easy to kill teammates... And as spook said theres the issue with the grenades..

I have added the settings to our matchserver script. U can see the option "Change the game variables" after u leased a server. Click on it (u must be on the server).

I agree with most of what u said besides the ffire and gun temp. This is cause of what magalhaes just said with the ffire and gun temp. Paintball guns don't have Recoil and rarely now a days do they chop while guns have recoil but become less accurate when u spray them thats the difference. Here's another thing if u ever play paintball (Depending on game type) you really do just spam paintball's while playing it.

So, we have 2 opinions :
first -> ffire 0
second -> grenades paint 0

The GT Advanced match server and EV1 servers already support some of these settings don't they?

the prob isnt that we dont have servers with these settings, the problem is that nobody is playing on them.
but im sure, you need a lot of more skill, if you play with settings like these.

Definitly one of the best proposals made for a long time.

I would even go with no revival. And as it was already pointed out, ff off because main reason is 1 shot = death. But if you'd go for more realism than ff should be on.

I used to run some pickup games with friendly fire enabled.  I think it makes the game more interesting.  You can't just blindly rush through the map, guns blazing.  If anybody remembers the early days of QWPB, there wasn't even an option to shut off friendly fire.  That got added much later.  Other mods enforce friendly fire, too, like the Half-life 2 Digital Paintball.

revival shouldnt be totaly disabled but probably incrased. ff on isnt a good idea we tryed it several times in the past but i cant remember it ever working. Reason is already mentioned: 1 shot = 1 kill. flagmustbeatbase 1 would probably cause a lot of camping :/ and i always liked guntemp thats a good idea.

Maybe to 90 seconds. But i think 60 is quite good, because if you increase it to 90, it would be boring for them, who are eliminated.

I would even go with no revival.

Mhh, what should we do, if its a close game, maybe an overtime. Nobody will go and search the other one.

Which could be the reason why it has like 10 people playing it... :)

Actually, I think that's because the servers never stay running for more than 5-10 minutes at a time.  Very unstable.

I wanted to do it on our server so I made a poll on our website.. Nearly everyone said NO (well everyone but me). There was a problem that asked people were czech origin and they (I dont side to czechs in this case :P) can just line, spam loc button and camp.
I think it would be very nice, but server admins (OTB, Arctic, LoF in EU) would have to change it.. They wouldnt like to, I'm sure..
