Digital Paintball 2 tv
« on: April 04, 2009, 07:48:20 PM »
I know in Counter Strike: Source, they have Source TV. Where matches are played on. People can watch as a spectator talk to each other and never have to worry about bothering the players in the match.

I mean its a stretch. Don't know if it is possible.
Also I think it could help find hackers easier too, with the ability to see matches and such.

the downfall with that is vent, and spectators reconing the other team.

At the same time, I don't think there's a huge demand to be able to watch the various matches that go on.

I believe in CSS they have various "camera" entities placed around the map and it cycles through them so people can't exactly just chasecam someone.

So then you delay the broadcast.  Thats what ET:QW does.

Yeah, but that means you have to keep track of five or six minutes of data and then replay it seamlessly, and the feature becomes a lot bigger than just a relay server. It's just not worth the trouble.

That doesn't really make any difference, the observers can still see where everyone is just fine.

SourceTV has a minute or two of delay.

Well, I am highly doubting it. Dp2 is a free game, counterstrike source cost money. There is a huge gap because of that. I am sure if/when Jitspoe get the ads, there will be much that he can/will improve, therefore all I can say only time can tell, but if he does start getting paid for the ads, there is more reasonable things he should do, before he goes and works on dp. So i say if it happens its far in future.

Btw Dp is still in development , counterstrike source is not, so since Dp is in development wouldn't Jitspoe have to code more into the tv, for new sounds ect.

Btw Dp is still in alpha beta

ALPHA BETA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dont normally take cracks at you Robbie, but that is just funny :))))

EDIT: Towards the Idea: Couldn't you just rig up some sort of Demo system + file sharing.  Could totally have a constantly updating watchable demo with the right tweaks I'm sure.

I thought it was still in alpha stages =]

Anyways, my point is still right with or without it being alpha, It is still being developed, every month i think, So he would have to code the tv every month, which would take to much work, when there is more important things to do.

Fixed it =)

I know.... lets get a bot in match servers to spectate everyone, save demos on servers and mass murder the server admins ;D.  Did I just not understand your post KnacK? :P

Q2PRO:

Multi View Demo support: Server is capable of recording and playing back demos in special MVD format, capturing views from each player in game. During playback, spectators themselves choose which view they would like to watch. This is completely transparent to and supported for any Quake 2 client connected to a Q2PRO server.

Game TeleVision support: Server may act as game relay node, allowing large amount of spectators watch game in real time without putting any additional load on the game server itself. Furthermore, live game streaming is done with all benefits of MVD format. There is no need for ‘camera man’, unlike other GTV implementations.

Thanks for that link, T3RR0R.  I was only familiar with the much older relays that were closed source and only ran on Windows.
