Need some helpski.
« on: April 18, 2009, 05:26:42 PM »
Anyone know any good programs to make my computer faster?  Like thinks to help clear up alot of space or ram boosters if they even work, I don't know I just need help.

I have windows 2000 professional on this P.O.S. :(  So make sure it's compatible with that first.

Thanks

I don't think there's such a thing, really.

If you really want speed, reformat the HD so that you can have a data partition and an OS partition. Install nearly everything to the data partition, and keep it as clean and clutter-free as you can. Reformat and reinstall everything on the OS partition regularly, keeping your data intact.
Get a decent AV (just about anything'll do-- actually, what do people think about AVG vs Avast!?) and keep up with the security updates. That's all I can think of, really.

Antivirus will most likely slow it down, and certainly won't make it go faster (unless you have viruses, maybe).

Minimize the number of programs that start when you turn your pc on.

msconfig is your friend.

Then you, sir, are intercoursed.

And AV will slow you down, yes, but much less than getting a crapton of viruses will. If the computer is bad enough that an AV really will be noticeable, then maybe you should just adopt safe practices :X

You need to clear space? Use CCleaner if you haven't used. Cleans pretty much if computer isn't cleaned in long time.

Sure you can.  You just have to get a copy of it, first.

Do disk defragmenting... you can leave your computer on without doing any work.

Minimize the number of programs that start when you turn your pc on.

msconfig is your friend.

Yeah, check any background programs that are running. Ctrl + Alt + Delete...
