Sharepoint or Wiki for a document/knowledge base

I need some sort of document/info reference for my self at work.  I have nothing formal set up.

I'll be keeping track of everything from servers and their inventory, software versions, and infrastructure notes.

I thought about using a light weight wiki but also though that setting a small sharepoint portal might be good for the learning process.

Any thoughts on this?

Oh god, how i despise Sharepoint. My company is pushing the use of internal sharepoint portals for each project, as a document store, calendar etc etc. I suppose its decent enough for what it is, especially for large teams and its definately taking off in the corporate world too. We are getting a lot of business installing/managing/customising Sharepoint portals for large businesses.

Some of the features don't work in Firefox mind you.

Wiki is the quickest and easiest, just depends if understanding more about Sharepoint is worthwhile for the future for you, if not I'd rat her stay away from it for such a simple use as you require.

I would prefer to use a true "wiki" but this might be an opportunity to introduce myself to Sharepoint with a relatively controllable project.

I wil lalso be the only one using it, unless I get hit by a bus or leave for another company.

Well I'd go for it, its recognised as a "high growth area" by us so certainly useful to know, I wish it wasn't though..
