The Amityville siege (in progress)
« on: July 02, 2009, 03:38:48 PM »
Just wanted to get opinions on this.

OLD MAP DELETED! Replaced with this Alpha 2:

http://hem.bredband.net/jstattoo/maps/amitysiege_b2.bsp

remember, I am NOT jitspoe and I am not a map-guru of any sort. I just had a decent idea and turned it into a poorly constructed DP map.

I hope the Siege-thingy works or I am dead meat!

I don't know if I am happy enough with it to finish it properly... Just wanted to vent it here to see if you'd cut me down or cheer me up!

Thankful for any input!

Screenshots? I'll look at it soon

For first map this is pretty good and i like it pretty much, maybe cause i failed to do siege map myself but what ever..

Firstly, grass fence doesn't look too nice and the texture you use for ladder, isn't really one of my favorites. In fact i hate it :P Construct a good ladder from multiple brushes and you have a lot nicer atmosphere.
Barrel tops have wrong texture, if you look better at the textures you'll see that there's a barrel top texture. I'd also change the color to white, so they don't give any advantage to the other team.

1./2. sshot: Add a ladder to the wall so you can climb up. Makes attacking a lil easier.
3. If this is meant to be a tree, i'd put a tree model here. Search the forum for tree model.

Then maybe you could do a fence next to the walking way on to the building side to give attackers some cover. Make it cool, gates and stuff. For last, iäd add more detail and maybe more light to the upper levels of the building.

Edit: Maybe some plants

Will work on it a bit more.
I knew about the barrel textures... And the attacking team spawns were put in just 2 minutes before I had to go to work so they have no ammo when spawning.

Hahaha... Yes, the cone is supposed to be a christmas tree... A great big amityville christmas cheer! :D

You can actually climb up the chimney! Both from the outside and the inside. A small christmas secret for your enjoyment!

Updated it a little bit.

Still haven't touched the lighting or the backyard bits...
Will create a small cosy wall on the rear side of the house...

Download it again, replace the previous and tell me what you think.

As I said, some bits and pieces left to do until I feel happy with it.
I am too poor of a mapper to maximise the potential, but heck... As long as someone plays it someday I am happy! :D

You should use beta extension, like amityville_b1. I'll take a look at sometime

I lol'd when i saw the coffins. They're funky :D Texture choices are bit off at some places. Brick ladder isn't really good. 1st sshot is of a good ladder. For the borders of defesing team, i'd prefer to make them go along the road, see 2nd sshot.

Thanks for the pointers.

I wanted the defending area to be more free... I don't know if I should change it or not.

I have the final beta at home, compiling as we speak... I'll upload it today or tomorrow and then it's just a matter of changing some textures before I'm done.

Heck... If there's someone who'd like to continue working on this map then I'd be happy to mail you the .map files.
I haven't got the time or the knowledge.

Otherwise I will post the final beta here and then fix some small things to release the map.

Thanks again everyone, especially JeeJee.

There's no hurry and you'll get the knowledge by time. I don't still know all the things i can make with my map editor...

I've attached a demo with suggestions for revisions and uploaded the map to the beta server for play testing.  See PM for details.
