alright, after multiple players complained about the game being choppy, I finally updated my servers to build16, as I thought it might be resolved that way. I believe it isnt, although it seems to run slightly better when using client and server-build 16, but not as smooth as it used to be, lets say, 2-3 weeks ago.
Another point is the severe pings some players are encountering on the GT servers for a few days now.  I think that problem hit me today, but others have been complaining about it for several days, suddenly having a 450-500 ping there, compared to the 180-220 as it was before. I wonder why that ping is that high, as it is only on the GraffitiPaint servers, it doesnt occur on any other servers, and also it doesnt seem to affect all players as well:  might be a problem of ISPs, but it must be affecting at least 2 or 3 ISPs so far.

I thought at least the first problem might be related to the new server build, or maybe to something else that jitspoe has done to the servers in the past weeks, like maybe requesting data from them for the global ban list or whatever, causing the servers to drop packets. I can't explain it, but many people seem to have these problems, so I hope this can be fixed soon.

Its high on the GT servers because they havent been updated to build16 yet.

and thats why they ping high? rofl... besides the point that there is no relation between serverversion and ping, it didnt matter what build I used.  Also, some players don't seem to have trouble with that, as I already mentioned.

Ok, well from what Ive heard people on build16 and playing on GT servers lag like hell. I dont know about the ping sitiuation. Im sorry i tried helping you detectivehead.

If it's ONLY happening on GT, I doubt it's in the client/server.

It must have something to do with the lines over to germany.  I haven't changed anything, and they obviously haven't, either.

okay, I guess I should have not mentioned the GT pings in this thread, as (just like the topic says) this thread was about the choppiness of servers since build16 came out.  lag spikes, caused by packetloss, have not been existant for me prior to the new build coming out I believe.... what did you do to the game? :S

What's your framerate like (cl_drawfps 1).  The networking code shouldn't have changed any.  It sounds like there may be some Internet pipe related issue that just happened at the same time as your build 16 update, just by coincidence.  It's also possible that the new models are hurting your framerate and causing the game to be choppy since they haven't been optimized yet.

framerate is fine....
cmdrate is fine as well usually, but at some points drops to 40-50 pps => choppy game. thats what I'm talking about here...
And no, nothing to do with internet pipelines:
- I'm not the only one affected
- it happens on all servers

It's most likeley the relective water. Try typing in "r_reflectivewater 0" in the console. The reflective water looks great, but it cuts your fps in half. also if you haven't set maxfps 0 instead of 999 or somthing.

The packet rate is still limited by the framerate.  If you get 40fps, the packet rate can't go above 40pps.

Well, if it's purely network related, the main cause of choppyness is packet loss.  Try setting netgraph to 1.  Black bars are dropped packets.

I know... the question is rather: "what can be done against it"?  it happens on all kinds of ISPs and all kinds of servers

Bob was havig some issues and setting cl_sleep to 0 fixed it.
