Where to download quake 2 texture pack?

You need to get the baseq2/pak0.pak from a Quake 2 CD.. or find it on the internet.

All the textures are in .wal format though.

Speaking of which, are we allowed to use these textures to map? Some sci fi maps would be great using those textures. I have them and I'd love to use them for mapping, but I wasn't sure if I was allowed to.

You can use them, but you can't redistribute them, as I understand it.

If I made a map with the Quake 2 textures, put them up on a public server and let everyone download it and play it, that'd be fine, but if I went straight to releasing a map on these forums including the textures, which everyone would get off the server anyway, that's a no-no?

That's like telling me at a Japanese ramen noodle shop that I can't order a bowl of noodles, but if I went to the store and bought the ingredients for it, they could make me one. That makes absolutely no sense.
