Build 30
« on: May 07, 2010, 01:24:09 AM »
Only had time to get an update installer together.  I'll work on the full install + Linux files next week.

Windows Build 16+ to Build 30 update:
http://digitalpaint.org/files/temp/paintball2_build030_update_pretest2.exe

Windows Build 30 Full Install:
http://digitalpaint.org/files/temp/paintball2_build030_full_pretest2.exe

Linux update:
http://digitalpaint.org/files/temp/paintball2_build030_linux_patch_pretest1.tar.gz

As always, with the pretest builds, if any kind of exploit is found, you will be responsible for installing a new (or old) build to fix it.

WHAT'S NEW:

build 30 (2010-05-07):
- Feature: Added a message box to inform people when they don't have proper hardware-accelerated OpenGL drivers installed.
- Bugfix: Fixed some errors that happen in old implementations of OpenGL.
- Bugfix: Fixed a crash in rscripts for old hardware/drivers that don't support multitexture.  1:02 AM 4/14/2010
- Tweak: Made scores menu allow some game input (fixes issues if you have "score" bound to "tab"). 5:10 PM 5/2/2010
- Tweak: Switched to Visual Studio 2008 express.
- Tweak: Tweaked default volume and attenuation so sounds at a distance are easier to hear. 5/2/2010
- Media: Re-recorded carbine sounds at a different angle so they sound less clangy.
- Media: New menu screen for people that do not have a profile to hopefully make things less confusing.
- Media: Increased volume of grass footsteps.

*** 1.919 build 168-169 ***
- Made the camera update looking at the killer while dead. 8:38 PM 2/19/2010
- Minor text tweaks for game mode displays.
- Made it so last player alive can't suicide with grenades. 12:32 AM 4/14/2010
- Switched to visual studio 2008 express.
- Added a volume to the chase camera trace so it doesn't penetrate walls. 6:16 PM 5/2/2010

It can't load or download maps.
I have the maps, but it won't load them. Just stops at the loading screen listing this message:

Requesting maps/ub_rooftop.bsp
Failed to open maps/ub_rooftop.tmp
Requesting sounds/ub_sounds/traffic.wav
**************************
ERROR: CL_ParseServerMessage: Illegible server message (0)
**************************

I can load the games solo, though.

I like the old (b29) carbine sound more. The new one sounds too much like plastic for me, but maybe thats more realistic.

The text on the new "you currently have no online login profile" page goes off the side of the screen with the default video resolution.

Jitspoe you should specify that you need an earlier version of dp to run this.

I have a problem though! Why is paintball upside down and look like it has a leak in the map? Another thing I was going to put a screenie in but the ones I take are corrupted. Whats going on? I have tried vid_restart. Also, messed around with the settings nothing happened. Anyone help?

Sounds like you have bad drivers.  What OS and video card do you have?

Yeah, I'll try to fix that for the official release -- it's only a couple pixels, though, right?

Can't wait for the Linux version, I have not been able to play for months.  Being wasting time actually doing constructive things...

Are these issues new to build 30?  Did build 29 work OK?  Try different drivers, and if that doesn't work, I would suggest spending like $20 on an old nVidia card...

Seems there was an issue with the death camera crashing when somebody was killed by a non-client -- good thing I didn't do an official release yet.  I have the fix up on EV1 now (hopefully it won't crash anymore).

Build 29 works fine, just downgraded actually. So it would work. Not sure how to get new drivers. Anyways, thats all.

Try this: http://www.s3graphics.com/en/drivers/index.aspx

Really odd that you'd have these issues in b30, as hardly anything has changed in rendering since b29.

Not sure - seems to be a pretty hot item, so I might work on that next.

I've uploaded the linux patch and linked it in the first post.

Build 0.30 seems to have fixed the previous' 'undefined symbol: _vsnprintf' crash in the Linux client - Thanks !

Not played it for long yet but seems fine, it seems faster for some reason (could just be recent Nvidia driver update...)
