Your favorite video/computer game
« on: May 01, 2011, 09:28:42 PM »
List your favorite video/computer games on this topic.
Here's my list in random order.

1. Oddworld Abe's Oddysee:

This game has sequels that I also enjoy, except the last one, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath. It is a puzzle like game. It is like Super Mario Bros. but it is intended for more mature gamers. Except the last one, which is a 1st person shooter game like the Quake games and is still intended for mature gamers. It also has a dark sense of humor once in a while.

This is a very great game. It's sound tracks are very relaxing I guess.

Edit 1:  This game had beautiful graphics for it's time.

The intro music is really nice:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvHLWJG2WQc

This game is was also released for the PC.

2. Red Alert:

This is a RTS game. It is a altered version of the World War 2.

Albert Einstein goes back in time to kill Hitler, hoping to stop the World War 2. But instead, the Soviets become the bad guys.

It is an old game. It is kind of long/hard to get working on modern computers, but it is worth it.

Red Alert, A Path Beyond:

This is a 1st person shooter version of Red Alert. It is a stand alone mod. Despite the fact it is new, it uses an old engine that is so old it doesn't understand how a processor can have 2 cores. So you need to adjust the graphics settings to get the game running smoothly.

Edit 2:  The Journeyman Project:

This game had 2 remakes. The Journeyman Project:  Turbo and The Journeyman Project:  Pegasus Prime. I have the Turbo one, which fixed most of the bugs and made the game more compatible with faster processors. But it still had plenty of bugs. There for, it failed.

The Journeyman Project:  Pegasus Prime is a remake that was only released for the Apple Pippin. There for, it failed. But the remake had new puzzles and most of the previous ones were made harder. If this game were released for a broader range of platforms including the PC, this would've been a win.

Intro to game:  This is the closest thing I can get to the intro, just skip to 1:20 in the video. It ends at 6:47:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1OAcXgAhjM

I think that is about it. If you want more info/would like to get these games, I'll help you.

I've always liked the feeling of picking up rare things and having the ability to grind so that the game becomes easier. So with that said:

Adom (ASCII graphics)
It has some anti-grind stuff in place, but the way you can pick up and use the best gear in the game at any moment definitely makes up for that (if you are lucky that is).

Fallout games
Really liked the inventory in 1 and 2 because it had descriptions and cool looking pictures of all the items. I wonder why Bethesda chose to leave those out..

Early Pokémon games
I might have been oblivious to it before, but in Pokémon Black the exp gain from defeating enemies decreases if you are stronger than your opponent, making my tactic of grinding my main pokémon all the way to lvl 32 before the third town kick me in the nuts.

Diablo 2
Mostly as a multiplayer. It feels way better to find gear for each other than for yourself. That and the good storyline is what made me really like this game.

Paintball 2
As long as it stays as mindless fun. Whenever I become conscious of the people around me shooting them down doesn't feel like so much fun anymore. The jump mechanism keeps staying awesome though.

Rock'n Roll Racing (snes)
It's an isometric car shooter with upgrades and some grind potential. I hope the car shooter genre comes back to this mold someday.

Gauntlet Legends (dreamcast)
Very good game as a multiplayer.

Very good game as a multiplayer.

Used to play the arcade version a lot, still remember my name/pass. Great when you've got all 4 players.

Love the Quake series. Doom was good. Liked 007 goldeneye or was it golden gun? Anyways, loved that for the N64, starfox was fun.

And mario for the nes.
