When the map name is italicized it means that you do not currently have that map downloaded. When you attempt to play on a server that is running a map that you don't have, Paintball2 will attempt to download it for you. However, if (as you say) Paintball2 says that you can't load the map, perhaps there a problem is occuring during the download. is your C:\<paintball2directory>\pball\maps file read only or CHMOD'd to unwritable settings?

Italics mean that you don't have the map.

EDIT: darn you, bug.

"i just burned it."

Wait, wait, are you running this off a CD?!!?!? Without special rewritable (CD-RW) ones + special software, you can't change ANYTHING on a CD! Please clarify where/how you're running paintball2.

Bug...even if it were rewritable it still wouldn't work, he'd have to open a writing session to write to it, lol.

+ special software

Meaning, he'd have to have cd-rewriting software and open a session to it. Must I explain everything literally? ::)

Eric, if you're running it from CD-Rom, with or without special pr0nographic software, or can't figure out what's wrong with the permissions of it if its on your harddrive, you can download build 16 for windows here and for linux/unix/macosx here.
