I would think the only people who have a problem with the length of bans are those who break the rules and are getting banned, right?
So if you are not cheating, then ban-lengths shouldn't matter to you.
If you are cheating, then take your punishment for breaking the rules with some dignity and quit complaining, wait out the ban, come back, quit cheating, and all will be fine... or just don't play the game if you can't play it without cheating.

... seems pretty simple: Don't Cheat = Don't Get Banned
... 2 + 2 = 4?

Most of the people who are banned for long amounts of time have already had their chance to stop hacking, and didn't. I would rather have less players that don't hack, than more that do. Quality not quantity. Take this opportunity to advertise the game and bring in/help new players.

The ones who now scream the loudest to unban all players that are currently banned, are the first to start requesting demos and rage over wallhackers again.

CheMiCaL: do all of us a favor and tell everyone on the fourms NOT to unban us all. we want the game to die :)

Well then this situation is simple. Temporary bans are there to more or less give people a lesson, but permanent bans are there to protect the game and it's players from things that are solely there to harm them.. more or less. People who's intent is to kill the game have NO place in the game, and the bantimes should reflect this.

I'm confused by how myers could find his 1024 bantime to be so unfair even though his sole purpose was to try and kill the game. I guess it's another one of his lies to hide his true motives behind, or he's just that oblivious to the obvious.
I believe it's both.

And to be on topic at least a little.. The game feels more appealing to me now. Unbanning the cheaters would make me less inclined to continue playing.

Edit: My reasoning failed a little. I meant to say that temporary bans are for people that still try to play the game but are too selfish/etc. to abide the rules, while as permanent bans are for those that have no intention to play the game and are only there to harm the game and it's community. If we go by that, then it is clear that the bans should be permanent.

I agree with that. I believe everyone associated with the recent uproar should be permanently banned from this game. If they don't care about it, there's no reason they should be allowed to ever play again.

Agreed,  they are a disease that is eating away at the life of DP.

Has anyone mentioned joining up on Steam? I personally do not play on there but it is a widely used game system that can help publicize DP2.
Sadly though all games eventually die even the ones that were sooooo in style when they came out.
Warcraft is dead for the next generation, anything GTA is dead, Doom3 is dead, Unreal is dead. They all die at a point. Yes a few still have servers up but like maybe at a peak time have 25 or 30 people worldwide playing.
Activision had a paintball game, was a cool setup but plain and now even through them it is a dead stick.
I plan to keep DP2 on my PC and a backup of all maps and files for when I get a new PC because it is fun, I can mod it for myself, and it still lives on.
To be honest to those wanting DP2 to die, Name any game as old as DP that is still online to play with large numbers of players? NONE, not even the Quake that DP was modded from thank you very much.
Honestly outside of MMORPG this is one of the longest living free online games since the birth of the internet.

Agree. Every game has to die sometime. But in order not letting the "title"die, editors release new version of that game with improved graphics etc (ex. GTA,COD,BF). And i think that something simillar is happening here. High-polygon models are being developed and there will be available official High-res texture pack soon. Its like releasing new game and not just build(if it is going to be implemented all in one build). So i think that with some advertisement (ex. reviews, banners, joining steam, joining multigaming clans, trailer) this game is cappable of attractig many new players.

Counter Strike is 11 years old, and still thriving. The difference is that counter strike evolved, whereas DP disintegrates as a community and gets lost in the times of nice looking games.

dno, never played quake for what it looks like. There are many games that look awesome and blabla but I don't need that eyecandy. For me, playing fps for eyecandy is like watching porn for the storyline.
