I personally think that this texture pack is a no-go.

As jitspoe was saying, texture packs should be the same design as on the .wal files. If mappers say, want a crate with no diagonal beam, they can choose a certain .wal file for that brush. If then someone doesen't follow that .wal file when creating textures, the map won't look how the mapper wanted it.

I have started making maps competently and it can be annoying if your map is displayed with the wrong texture design.

Not my problem.I replaced the unwanted textures with the original hr4 ones and now I have a legit texturepack. (At the cost of that beautiful grass) :/

the whole point of textures is to have it what the player wants it to look like.... and some mappers use retarded textures.

Let the mapper use what he/she wants.If the player has other textures there's nothing that can be done to force him to use to official or whatever ones.Can we just stop arguing?

If these textures are legal, I demand my neon green paintballs back. Yes, taste differs from person to person, but from what I can tell, these new texture packs only serve one purpose: gaining visible advantage. It's not just this package, but seldas and spartax aswell and I really do think that there are more around, just unknown to the forum.
You either force everybody to use your offical hr4 pack, or allow everything (which is not necessarily a bad thing. quakelive even allows me to change the player's skin model and color. Since everybody can use that, it's not even unfair). Otherwise you cannot draw a clear line.

On topic to the thread, I've never tried Sunman's Textures (or anyone else's besides the default ones, actually), so I'm going to stick to the default ones just in case these ones aren't legal (as I've heard from a few people).

Several of the textures in that pack aren't legal. I've removed the download link to avoid any confusion. While I would like to let people customize the game a bit more, it's unfortunately the reality that people will use that ability make modifications that provide an unfair advantage. I've directly warned several people that were using unfair textures. If you have any doubt about the textures you're using, just get the official hr4 pack. If you don't like those textures, provide feedback as to why so they can be improved.

obviously they are. They give huge adventage on some maps but people will keep using them because they claim they're nicer which imo arent.

Im getting sick of this texture problems, it has to be resolved. Most players use this god darn pack. Its time we draw the lines. I'm going to do what I can to convince jitspoe this is important and we need to do something now!

Huge? it is an advantage and gives you that second extra to spot the players, which in most games a second is huge. Some textures look better, but most are misaligned. It's not fair someone used them period. Jitspoe is generous if I were him you would all be banned. Aveiros an example and some of you are clearly dumb to still use them. This will be solved at some point, it may end in one ban or forty bans only you the players can choose. But I'm all in favor to ban everyone who uses these wether your a noob or one of the best in the game.
