Map Downloads & Database: Find maps, with thumbnails!
« on: June 28, 2013, 09:14:08 PM »
I was setting up a Paintball server for some friends but I couldn't really remember which maps were which, so I made a quick web interface tonight to browse maps:

Edit: dpresource is no longer online.  Check out http://mapsearch.website/dpfiles/ made by Whoa and Toolwut instead.

Visit Map Browser Site

This uses the map collection from OTB's FTP database and I am not maintaining the list/downloads of maps.

If you want your map included, get it onto OTB's FTP site and it will appear in the browser within an hour or two.

The screenshots are map thumbnails from the FTP site, made by me and pif years ago. Thumbnails are extracted from the .zips to my server and they are not updated automatically.

Well I'm back insofar as needing to go here to get stuff and whatnot, but I'm pretty terrible at visiting forums regularly, even with my own forums.

Looks pretty nice. Good job. Just one thing, could you change the "?" when a mapshot wasn't found to a standard picture instead with something like "PIC NOT FOUND". I think it would look better.

Edit: Oh I see you have a picture for that in your post, but it doesn't appear for me.

Fixed that.

Also added something to let you select maps, and then export it into a rotation.txt. Can also import an existing rotation.txt.

When you remove your selections the checkboxes are still selected. Maybe you could change that so people don't have to uncheck them.

Refreshing should fix that, but yeah, that needs to be rectified.

Nice!  Looks like OTB needs to remove a bunch of junk maps from their server, though.  The screenshot you posted is full of unlit and unvised maps.  You should display the maps in proper 4:3 ratio or crop them so the aspect ratio is correct.

Eh, I actually don't mind the (availability) of the junk maps that much. Since I found the old BSP parser that I had written for DP Resource, I probably will add controls to filter out unlit/unvised maps automatically.

I thought that I moved unlit and unvised maps to the beta section sometime. Maybe you could add a filter for results with and without beta maps.

OK, I just moved the site to its own domain and made it look better. There are filters now, and you can search by author.

Here's jitspoe's maps, for example:

Type unlit:yes in the search box.

From the OTB website, how do I download all of them without clicking each one individually? can't i just download the whole maps folder?

Go download an FTP program like FileZilla, connect to their FTP site, and then drag the maps to your desktop.

then drag the maps to your desktop.

You do mean that dragging the "maps" folder works, and not just dragging each map individually? or can I select all, and then drag?

and FileZilla I'm assuming is a firefox addon?
