Brand Spanking New PC Build - Whatcha' Think?
« on: July 30, 2013, 07:50:53 AM »
Hey, everyone! Yesterday I was looking at some parts online to go into my old PC. I started thinking, why not build an entire PC? My laptop is a HP compaq nc6000 and my main computer is entirely custom from old parts from the trash bin. Lol. And both of them can only play games older then about... let's say, 6 years. So I decided to go online and search for all my parts. So... this will be my parts list:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 AM3 3.4Ghz 512KB 45NM 125W 4000MHZ
(Amazon)

CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
(New Egg)

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-4GBRL
(New Egg)

GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
(New Egg)

NZXT GAMMA Classic Series GAMA-001BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
(New Egg)

Western Digital WD Blue WD5000AAKX 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb s 3.5  Internal Hard Drive
(New Egg)

My dad told me that all of them should work quite well with each other.

I'm looking to play:

Team Fortress 2 at least High

Arma 2 at least medium

Battlefield 3 at least medium

Mirror's Edge at least medium

Arma 3 at least low

Crysis 2 at least medium

If one of the games can definitely run higher than the level I'm wanting, please tell me.

If you have a suggestion for a game, you can tell me. :D

The phenom 965 is stock clocked at 3.4, not 4ghz. You'll probably need an aftermarket cooler to get 4GHz out of it. Are you using phenom just because you heard bad things about the fx series? 81xx can still beat a phenom. Also, you seem to be lacking a graphics card?

Whoops, couldve sworn I had the graphics card listed...
Here it is:

XFX CORE Edition FX-777A-ZNF4 Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Well, I found this on YouTube, and it sounded almost too good to be true... I would actually like to have Skyrim on here.

Since the Phenom is 3.4ghz, and still a quad core, wouldn't it still be decent. I might go get a cooler after a while but I honestly don't like overclocking.

Also, this will all go together, right?

Yeah, phenom still holds its own against the lower end of FX series because each of its cores has an FPU, unlike the FX series. It's just pretty old is all.

Should all go together.

On mirror's edge, you'll have to disable physx or it will start running at 2fps when any glass breaks.

Oh, and your ram seems a little low/slow, but that's probably not going to bottleneck too much.

It seems a bit dated... I'm sure you're just trying to save money, but you might be able to get a system like that at a better price off of some hardcore gamer selling his old machine on craigslist or something...

Also, after owning one, I would personally never buy another ATI card, even if it meant getting a lower spec nVidia card or spending more money.

It may be dated, but I'm on a very low budget... I don't mind having to run a game on low... I don't give a crap bout graphics. What about Arma? How good will it run?

I've used AMD/ATI ALL of my life. Every laptop and PC had it. I actually don't have any money right now, but me and my dad created this little tiny business to go to the landfill, grab every PC part we see, then build it, then sell it. I don't want this to be a console/PC war, but my dad said we can put the money towards a PS3 and bills. I say a gaming PC and bills.

Use Game Debate.  It'll at least give you an idea of CPU, GPU and ram.  For example, Skyrim:

Arma runs pretty poorly even on high end machines... not sure if it's possible to tweak it to run well on lower end machines.

Well, I don't really have money right now at all, but probably $400... but when I get more money AFTER I possibly buy the parts and put it together, I may think about updating it.

ARMA 2 runs great for me.  I use GeForce experience for all my game settings. I do have a beast of a computer though.

Back to the main topic though... I am not sure that it is even worth it to buy a gaming PC with only a 400$ budget.  Might be better off to get a PS4 or Xbox one when they come out if you are on such a strict budget.

I suppose my standards are pretty high though... If you don't mind playing games on low settings and you found parts that fit your budget then go for it.  Make a post at http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcforme.  I am sure you can find some better help there.

I honestly think, it was just arma... like i cant get dayz to work and the game looks like excrement. IDK 8$ or something can't complain too hard.

I just can't stand consoles for some stuff. I love them for driving, but hate them for FPS.

I wonder how good this PC would do for Crysis, 1 or 2.

It did seem pretty good saying that it should run of the games to 2013. I don't mind putting settings down at all.
Plus I wont another computer cause the laptop I'm on will barely run this.
