Are you able to tell your own feelings about a hurtful comment of somebody without them telling you're a coward?

I know that this depends to your reputation, but I just want to clear things out, because most people now in the community is typing hurtful comments to other people, especially to newbies. AND I know that doing so is against forum rules. Don't flame me, K?
