Race Fans will Love this
« on: July 24, 2006, 09:47:10 AM »
i was getting fed up with myhood, so i was gonna try and make a map with no leaks and use real lighting. a kid who was over at my house wanted to make a racetrack level, so i made it. it's a 1 flag level, the flag is on the finish line, the bases are the grandstands. run around the track, grab the flag, and return it to your base. if you use the "speedometer" command, you can see that you can go over 120 mph on this track. it will be up on my server if you want to try it today.

you can download it farther down

Yeah, you need to make it brighter.  The easiest way to do that is to make a custom compiler batch file and add -scale to the rad line.  I'd probably use -scale 3.

well, I had once build something similar, but never released it.. I have to admit, yours looks better ;)
one thing you really have to change tho:  as it is a map with White Flag, the flag will have to be returned to the opposite base. In this map, tho, you want the flag to be returned at your own base, so you have to switch the base triggers around. Otherwise the one team will not have to race a full round, while the other has to race more than 1 lap.

The map looks very good- nice texture selection and all that. But, (as usual) I can't see it being very good for gameplay. You're improving, keep it up!

Its gonna need barrels and cars on fire in the middle of the track. Moving cars would be the coolest...on fire.
It'd suck if you just left it open, I'd play oddjob over it anytime.

thanks, im sorry eiii, i cant help making my maps based more on fun than strategy. in this map, you can just compare top speeds and see who can go the fastest. ill try to make a strategic map next  ;) i suppose myhood is kinda dead... i'm too lazy to fix the leaks and there are way too many entities  :( and also, jitspoe, could you explain that in more detail? i'm sorry for being a noob again, but i don't really understand that.

hmm... i had an interesting idea, but i'm not sure this would work... a way so you would have to do some laps before it spawns the flag? but i dont know how you could get everything to reset after the flag has been capped...

medley crew: the menu items in the BSP export menu are actually just batch files (*.bat).  You can edit these files or add new ones to customize the compile process.  Open up c:\bsp\pball2\bats, then copy "final compile.bat" to, say, "final compile scale 3.bat".  Right click on it and go to edit, then change it to look like this:

Quote
call ..\compilers\qbsp %1
call ..\compilers\vis -level 4 %1
call ..\compilers\rad -scale 3 -extra %1
call ..\compilers\runmap %1

ok, i've added some barrels on the sides to make it more complicated. i also set to scale to 3 and it seems to be working. i also made it so you have to return to the opponents base to cap. it also supports elim now as well as 1 flag. it's compiling now, so i will post new screenshots when it's done.

and here is a shot showing the barrel arrangment

OMG! YES!!! I'm with loial on that one! Racetrack + speed-boosting patches/ramps would rock, I mean c'mon, you gotta hit really high speeds on this for it to be fun.
