Terrain Tutorial ?
« on: June 10, 2015, 12:04:29 PM »
Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there are any sort of video tutorials showing how to make decent terrains for maps, using BSP.

That's the software I use and I really want to know/learn how to make terrain.

Thanks for the upcoming answers.

Late reply, but thanks for the input ! That's exactly what I was looking for.

Also, during his tutorial, he switch the grid squares from 64 to 16. What is the best number to map ? 1 player is which size high ? 2 16's blocks high ? 2 32s ?

Thanks !

Player is same size as info_player_deathmatch box in BSP, check how big that is :)

For terraining, I find that a grid size of 16 is the most optimal, although 8 is preferable in certain circumstances.

Any help is appreciated.

When trying out the lighting, this is what I get as a result from the Sky. I set it up as ''Sky'' - ''Pbsky1''

For the whole map, as you can see, only the left side is lit. Also, that's the only base lit. Is there anyway I can make the sun be in the middle of the map to lit at least equally both side and mid ?

I read about the sun_angle, but it doesn't seem to do the job.

Your exact issue (I think) is _sun_angle. "90 -90 " should be directly overhead if you want to go from there.

Looks like you have a leak so bounced light isn't working.  You may need to set a _sun_surface value as well.  This will apply ambient light from the sky in addition to the sun light.
