Players list on server choice interface
« on: July 27, 2015, 12:45:25 AM »
Would it be possible to add the server browser into the game itself ?

You would hover your mouse over the server in the server list and it would display the names of the players inside the server.

Pros:

- Would simplify the search of opponents for matchs i.e. if they are in a match server, you can only know who's in it with the server browser.
- It would be easier and faster to lookup the players in a server.
- Adds some fancyness into the game.

That would probably be a part of this feature vote: http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=11233
Having the player list pop up on hover is not currently possible and would probably need another feature vote similar to the one about context menus, but it would be possible to have another list in the join game menu to show the player names. That would take up much space in the menu though, which collides with the desire to keep all menus usable in 640x480.

From build 41 on you will be able to let the standalone serverbrowser give you a list of all players currently playing (name and which server they are on). Since the game allows alt-tabbing out without any kind of delay and the external serverbrowser is very lightweight I don't see a reason for not just letting it run in the background and using it for exactly this purpose whenever you need it.

Yeah the standalone server browser is a pain to use on the side when you want to just have dp open. No offense html!

It would be nice, and professional, to have one click on a server in the list show the server browser info as html's site does, and have two clicks still be an automatic connecting to the server.

Why? It minimizes to tray and only occupies about 4 megabytes of ram. Why would you even care about it running while playing?

That is exactly what the standalone serverbrowser does.

Its not about the processing speed it's just a hassle to switch back and forth between.

And I'm saying if the game itself had the server browser implemented into it, it would make for a more professional display/look.
