Can I get around the requirement for an OpenGL graphics card?
« on: August 04, 2006, 10:23:42 PM »
the other day i refered a friend of mine to this game, after he saw me play it. When he tried to run the game it said he needed an Open GL graphics card to run the game. This is a big long shot but: Is there anyway that the game can run without an open gl graphics card, even if it means running an older build? Or does my friend need a new graphics card?

What graphics card does he currently have? Make sure you update the drivers.

You could always try what Termi did, though most servers require you have at least build 13/14:

That'll work fine. The build requirements are only on some pub/match servers.

but my problem still stands. I'd be quite happy to play a massive lan game, but my friend cant run the game theres no point to it. if i cant get an older version i'll just have to put a sugestion out to jit: In build 17, how about some way to run the game without needing an open gl graphics card. I can gurantee you'll get more players

You can get a video card that supports OpenGL really cheap now, I think. Paintball2 doesn't need a high-end card.

I'm getting much the same message on Ubuntu except I have an ATI card and my processor is an 2100 xp or something (I was out and about for a year and don't remember what I put in it now). Not the best hardware by a long shot mind you but it all works. You would think the the "people friendly" distro would package paintball by default. After all the people want to shoot at each other with simulations of simulated guns dag nab it.
