Azur
« on: April 29, 2018, 08:16:21 PM »
Hello,

FourthX decided to do tutorials recently about how to map using Quark so i decided to do a map on which i kinda got used to the software.

Currently in beta_5 the only way to play it is by using the following command on arctics server : newmap inprogress/azur_b5

Will edit my post with futur updates.

Here are previews of my map called Azur :

Inspired myself with propaint3_beta4 for this one.

I really enjoy Crash's maps and the small but decent details he put into.

Tho if this is a problem i can definitely remove the map from being used if Crash has anything to say, i'd understand.

pp3_b4 - the bastard child of Clipz and Bix, that cuso was forced to make.

Happy to see someone mapping. Good luck!

I'll have to fire this one up at the next Social Saturday event to get some better gameplay feedback, but first impressions are:

1) As some have said, it looks too similar to the propaint maps.  You could change the texture scheme and bunker shapes a bit and make it look a bit more unique.
2) Shape and texture themes are a bit bland.  Lots of big, flat walls with the same texture.  Doesn't really make sense for a single piece of wood to cover like 100m.  Try looking outside of other Paintball2 maps for inspiration.  Find creative ways to make the textures more immersive.
3) I like that the flag is easily accessible from many directions.  I feel like we need more maps with 1 flag per base like this that aren't too easy to defend.  Keep things straightforward but interesting.
4) Maybe add a simple ladder or something to the high path from the middle for the new players.  The hay bale jump is not very intuitive.
5) Use -extra when lighting so the shadow edges don't look so blocky.

This map is a mix between pp1/pp3 texture and structure-wise. Thats where i got the inspiration from.

I don't plan on making it any better, because i don't have the .qkm file for it anymore but as for the feedback you just gave, there was some interesting points and i'm gonna follow those for my next map. Really appreciate feedback.
