waterlogged/flooded in
« on: August 12, 2006, 08:11:15 PM »
Hi again :). this is my first map i made by myself. it's based on... a warehouse. But it's flooded :D! I am gonna use func_trains to make the crates bob up and down. also i'm gonna make  sunken barrels and other objects to give it a more "flooded" look.
The name is still in debate, as bug has already used waterlogged, but if he doesnt mind me using it, i think it's a much more catchy name than "flooded in"  :) I came up with the idea because it's basically the opposite of the mesas, as it is filled with water.
There are 3 possible routes now, but i plan on adding additional routes later. The first two routes
are obvious, (jumping the crates and swimming across), and the third route is a drain shaft.
the problem is, the drain shaft is so long, getting through it is impossible without taking at least one breath  :-[.
I fixed that by adding a "breath room" where you can take a breath and replenish your paintballs. i know it looks
really cheesy, cuz its just a random place with no water. i plan on fixing that somehow, maybe using something
like an "airlock" except with water. i'm attatching some screenshots, and you can download a beta version (unlighted but still
vised 8)) here http://rapidshare.de/files/29194910/beta_flooded_in.bsp.html

and here are the screenshots.

#1= purple base
#2= "camping crate" i hope this open crate will become a great spot to camp your flag  ;D
#3= the drain shaft, which you enter through a drain on the main room's floor.
#4= the blue base

it needs spinning boxes, if they're spinning then it will be more of a challenge to stay out of the water...also needs a higher ceiling for jump room.

Sorry. I wish new (or bad) mappers would stop showing us their maps.

And I seriously doubt it'll get much better.

Instead of just telling him that his map suxors, try helping him improve it or his maps in general.  I think there's plenty of people out there who have some great ideas for maps.
I didn't download it but from the screenshots I'd suggest that you make it so the crates are at least 2/3 underwater probably more.

It looks okay, just please light the map for screenshots.

I would recommend using the light surface flag with a value (larger values for small lights, smaller ones for big lights, make sure they are at least a value of 100-200 for big lights, maybe even up to 10000 for small lights)
