I suppose this isn't really a needed feature, but more of a novelty.  In quake 1 there is a client called Fuh-Quake, and it allows you to view your speed just like you view your FPS.  I know there is the topspeed is already there, so if that could be made real-time, i think it would be kinda neat.

"speedometer"  It's already there.  Lots of undocumented features, hehe. (it's displayed in mph in place of your paintball count).

one other thought...
With these new 'high-res' textures.  Are we talkin 24-bit....or just redoing them to make them look nicer?
And if they are already 24-bit, ignore me =).

Oh, the location files.  Those aren't implemented yet.  As for the high-res textures, they will be 24-bit (the current ones are as well).  FourthX posted links to the ones he's working on in another thread.

Dp alpha already has 24 bit textures (which can be used with nocheat q2 btw) but these are going to have 4x the resoulution in both directions. See the other post about this from shreds for some screenshots.

Heres an idea.. a flashlight.

To make seige more fun, add turrents that people can man.

And the reason I actuly made this post but completly forgot about.. Airtime.. Youve got a speedometer.. why not add airtime?

Say it would be simaler to the speed.. but when your airtime goes for longer then 5 seconds.. (made that number up) a semi transparent unobtrusive monitor shows up on the screen and keeps counting until you land! I think that would be pretty sweet =] And.. have like.. camera shutter clicks going off.. I think thats right out of tony hawk.. not sure.

Also when someone beats the speed record.. something to notify everyone of the new record would be cool.. This would just add some extra compitition to the game, I feel.

i would like to see a few maps really dark and you have a flashlight and thats the only way you can see that would be fun.

You can already make wavy water like that with rscripts.

What would be cool is relflective/refractive environment mapped water surfaces (see hl2 videos).  That would only be supported on the newer cards, though.  It would also have visibility issues (ie, standing on/by a bridge, the bottom of the bridge wouldn't be directly visible, so it wouldn't draw, but it WOULD be visible in the reflection, however, it still wouldn't draw).  Might be ways around it, but that kind of eye candy requires a lot of time to code, and I'm hoping somebody else will do it :D

I posted this in the dev spot alredy =] A new sound engine.. to like make the sounds.. sound good. I dont know anything about coding but from what I see its already done.. and just needs to be implimented.

Heh, yeah, mSparks (the guy doing ltktbm) and I have worked together a little -- I'm planning on getting OpenAL sound in pb2.  Build 8 or 9. :)
