« on: October 22, 2006, 09:50:12 PM »
I like playing DM maps on my own LAN for just the wife and I etc.

What death match maps are out there?

hm, don't have that one...I will check it out!

EDIT

thanks ,got it and it works fine.

I have also used .ent files to modify a couple of maps to make new spawn points for better dm'ing

It goes slow :) if you put them at the wrong vertical spot then they float off into nothingness and splat.

But I have a version of rally now that works as a dm map

I had given up on the project for a while since the wife wasn't playing it as much. But now gotten back into it and might host a cable server with all death match pgp maps (good target practice!). I just have to get my port forwarding etc. worked out.

Here is a post with  Jitspoe helping me find the spawn points:

conquest - simply the best. Has multiple areas, which makes the map really interesting. Spawns could be better (some spawns clearly are bad spawns, like no weapons nearby or big chance that most of the action takes place in Ur spawn area, so most likely u get killed very fast without giving any resistance)
Pb2dm1 - me doesn't like the map at all. Some spawns and equipment aren't logically placed in my opinion. (but what do i know, maybe i just don't think like mapper wanted me to think)
theedge - quite ugly :/. But to actually gameplay is quite smooth and fun.
q2dm1 - i am talking about corny`s remake to DP (you can dl it: http://www.zone.ee/scythe/q2dm1.bsp). The map is made by a player who played q2 for many years (5+ if i remember correctly). You can find multiple trick jumps there (find a way to the cocker ;))
arm - .... only thing spectacular there is the treetop jump.
cosmic3 - same story with conquest. Multiple interesting areas. Spawns and equipment nearby are logical and easy.
spark - ...
pgp - small, fun, 1v1 pgp map. Barrels are the key part here.
fff - similar to pgp

well, if any other DMs exist, let us know. And i mean dm maps, not just .ent.

- and that one townish map.. don't remember the name, but much fun to play.  looks like a few houses where you get up on the roofs or play down in the streets

Where are the textures ect... that go with the q2dm1.bsp you have for download?

Also, I thought q2dm1.bsp WAS the name of the original Quake 2 map better known as TheEdge...  Is this 2 different attempts at the same map?

i do not know where you can find the textures :/

q2dm1 is the name, correct. Corny just made the actual map to fit DP.

Incidentally, how hard are Quake maps to transfer over?

Looks like it.

The textures aren't "missing" per se.  All the visible surfaces use the standard paintball2 textures.  It seems the mapper just didn't bother to fix any of the invisible surfaces.  He also didn't bother to vis or light the map or fix the texture alignment.  Seems both remakes are pretty poor.

m7: Quake1 maps would require converting.  Quake2 maps will work as-is, but won't have the proper textures or entities.

Wow, talk about fast replies.

Jitspoe, you are definitely one of the plusses of this game.

Thanks for the info.

EDIT
That q2dm1 map is pretty fun. But wow is it ugly! I put it in my rotation, and set edge to antigrav.

I may try my hand at changing textures just for the fun of it too. Maybe it will motivate me to learn mapping.

I see those maps and I keep wanting there to be a grapple or hook option LOL...  DP with a hook option... what a cool option that would be... How hard would it be to pull that off Jits?

Hm...or something like the telelocator in UT.

That thing was awesome, and you could do whole matches of just telefrags.

Routez is another map that was desiged with DM spawn points, etc. already included.

I just put it to all pgp and it is great.

I also made new spawn points for airtime and Rome, and set them both to pgp only.

Haha, beat me to it.

* Fembot demands a grapple be added (for realism).

Or whatever that bind was.
