Demo all players
« on: October 26, 2006, 07:23:29 AM »
Is there a command that records a demo from every perspective? For example: if you use the "record" command in counter-strike gldsrc, you can freely switch between all players and perspectives during the replay. Is there an equivalent command like this? I think there was something like this in beefquake....

there is a possibility to record server-sided demos, but if I remember correctly, there is no tool to play them back.  Server-sided demos would then give you the ability to view all perspectives I guess

Perhaps some day somebody will make a tool to play them back. :)  There actually are some tools, but I never got them to work.

Unfortunately the server-side demos don't record things sent to each client specifically (ie: various game messages, HUD, etc.)  It just records the position of entities.  The difference is that it isn't affected by the PVS system, so all entities get recorded, not just the ones within the view of the player recording the demo.

I don't even remember the names of the tools I tried, let alone the links.  Google is your friend.

There's not a command to force demo recording with the current release.  The next release has a g_autorecord setting, though.
