Would DP qualify as an independent game? If so you should think about getting it on IGF (independent game festival). That would bring in tons more players, and if it won independent game of the festival or something like that it would bring in tons and tons of new players.

see, at this point, i dont think dp is ready for "tons and tons" of new players. it's still in beta, we dont have the "map" thing down, and it just needs to be finished.

well its a yearly festival so there is allways next year and the year after that. its just more would it even qualify cause it is based of the q2 code (even when you dont need q2 to play it and you would have a hard time seeing that the q2 code is even in there still)

Interesting idea.  If nothing else, it looks like it could be fun.

"The deadline for IGF Competition entries is September 1, 2003" Looks like I missed the deadline, though. ;)

Use of third-party game engines: Games that make use of previously released commercial engines or technology are only eligible if they could be legally published as-is. For instance, if you do not have legal right to commercially release a game using the Quake III engine, it is not eligible for the Festival. On the other hand, games using DirectX are eligible (because Microsoft permits developers to license their technology at no cost), as are games that have already paid a license fee to use the Quake III engine.

Sounds like it would be fine, since it could be published as-is.  I'd probably have to change the sounds, though (no more Simpson's quotes, etc), and I'd centainly want it to be more done.  Maybe for 2005.

you could have 2 download versions, with different sounds...or a sound pack.

Overall, I don't think it's a bad idea. BUT, I'm just sketchy on the fact that "tons and tons of new players" will be playing. This might be just me, but I don't think DP is ready for that many new players. Like eiii said, it's still in the process of being tweaked and worked on, so I don't see it as qualifying for the festival just yet. But, we'll see how things work out, and I'm sure by 2005, things would be ready to go.
