Thoughts?  If not many people like it, I'll just disable it.

i think its a decent idea but it has potential to just lead to more problems in the long run. it may be one of those "time will tell" things.

I think it is very entertaining as well, seeing that it has been active for less than 24 hours and some members has serious karma issues ( cough*Doug*cough ) :p

Ha Ha Blue karma person...  And to think I gave you a +

Seriously, an avatar would be better...  This serves no real purpose other than to imply whether users are a good or bad person.

I must be a bad bad boy... :(

In another forum I used to visit had similar system. It was called Reputation Points. You could give good or bad rep. When you had more good rep than bad then you got a Green bar, when you got more bad than good then you good a red box. When you had excrementload of good rep you gained excrementload of boxes and it was fun. At first you couldnt see who hgave you rep, but later the owner of the forum added a function - you added a comment explaining why you gave the rep, at the beginning it was anonymous, later it became public. Oh, and you could give rep to a certain post.

I like the idea of the other type of system where there are certain values, like on the Red.vs.Blue Forums.

+1 zing!

So I'm taking it that the negative values for your Karma are going to be flaming and stuff of that nature?  Also if you get enough negative karma are going to get banned or something along those lines?

People can just add positive or negative karma if you they 50+posts. Judging by the way most people's scores are looking, (apart from skater's) the scores people are giving have nothing to do with what you've posted.

PiCaSSo: Geez, just go in your profile settings and enable avatars.

ViCiOUS: Yeah, it's looking that way.  If somebody doesn't like you, they're probably going to give you negative karma regardless of the quality of your posts, and visa versa.

I think the ideal system would be post based: each person could make one vote per post, and if that post's overall rating was positive, it would add positive karma.  If it was negative, it would add negative karma.  I think that would still have just as much potential to be abused, though.  If somebody didn't like you, they'd go through all your posts and give them negative points.

Looks like there's a pretty even split on the votes.  I'm leaning toward removing it, but I'm curious how it would pan out in the long run.

blaa: I've been on forums with the reputation system and didn't care for it much.  The people who posted the most got the highest reputation, period.  Even if they were the most annoying/spammy posters around.  Meanwhile, the people who only posted occasionally, but had quality posts only had a small amount of reputation.

keep it for a while and see how it goes. You can always disable it in the future if people simply abuse it.

Karma poll? We don't need no sticking Karma poll! We need kick ass moderators.

How about a smell o' meter instead.

*edit. I am fired.
