It would probably be easier to just create a third party updater.

Yep, definitely.  I'm sure one of the batch script boys™ could put together something sufficient, it's probably not a huge necessity, but there's no problem with voting for it. :D

If I can ever figure out how to get libcurl to compile, I'll make a solid .exe for it.

On the subject of messages, I really think the first thing that needs to be done is improve the MOTD feature.  Perhaps make it like some other games where the message pops up as a dialog and you have to close it or select which team you want to join.  Perhaps once this is done, global messages could be tacked on to it.

+1 for improved MOTD.

As for an auto-updater, that may not be too hard to make, but the problem is: who is going to cover the bandwidth bill whenever a new release comes out?

+ 1 for a better MOTD system.

Hmmm, i wasnt really thinking about real life implications, more just in game. I don't know how we would work this. Perhaps the message displayed could just notify of a new release and you couldnt connect to servers without the highest version...

Torrent system?
Genius.
Lots of games use torrents to download, and since DP is a relatively small file compared to other games, it would not take very long to download.  To speed it along though, you would need a multiple 'default' computers uploading at a standard 32 kb/s.

Edit almost forgot:

So in this torrent system, what happens when my 'seeder' has modified the update?  I just take my global ban and be content with it?

Actually what happens is your client realises the file's checksum is wrong and redownloads from another seed/peer.

Alright good.  I'm obviously a torrent newb because I've only used it for getting a few Linux ISOs, I've never downloaded copyrighted stuff like 3/4 of you guys...

+1 for a clock in the hud somewhere, I'm so tired of being late to something while playing DP.

Edit, It would be super sexy to have a key bound that could raise the players right arm up, bringing the wrist into view, revealing a digital watch so the player could clearly see the time :P

I'm sure if I could understand you guys, I would agree. I only caught the gist of what you're saying though.

New Request

Regarding: Global Login, Client, Ponies

I vote we add an in-game and global login website messaging system for the sole purpose of communication between Jitspoe and the Committee, and the average players.   This could be used to publish mass-messages such as the release of a new build, or specific messages, for example, why a player has been banned.  I propose that the client-side system could either alert players of new messages upon login, or have a built-in client feature to read messages in-game after log in.  Discussion took place here: http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=10109.0;topicseen, with general consensus that this idea wasn't terrible.

I know all of these votes leave a lot to be desired, so I'm not opposed to others discussing this more in-depth in the pre-vote discussion page.

I was playing Warsow the other day, (for those who don't know what warsow is, its a q2 engine based standalone game based on qfusion so that it supports q3 media, and is done in cell shading), and i was wondering how hard it would be to implement a wall jump.  the only problem i see with implementing a wall jump is that there would be maps constructed before the wall jump, so now people could get to areas of older maps that were previously unreachable. my argument to that is that there is no standard gravity, so anyone could get to anywhere depending on the server gravity anyway. tell me what you think, but i have a
+1 for wall jump.

A wall jump would be entirely possible, but there's no reason to implement it. It doesn't fit the game, it doesn't really add anything to the game except making the ability to jump more important, and as you said, it breaks older maps.
Warsow is a good enough game, but it's a separate one.

I was more thinking along the lines of coolness factor than actual gameplay enhancement.  bu t seriously, how sweet would it be to jump off a wall and shoot.

It'd be cool enough, but it'd destroy the current gameplay and a ton of maps.

If you desperately want to jump off walls, you can play Warsow. ;)
