b00nlander: I think the best approach for that would be to have a mute/unmute command for admins as well as a way to set whether players are muted or unmuted by default when they connect.  In the case of pbcup, you'd have it set to mute by default, then unmute specific players (team captains or whatever).  On regular servers, players would be unmuted by default and could be selectively muted by admins for misbehaving.

I'll throw in a vote for that as well.  A general purpose muting system could be very useful for admins.  In fact, I'm surprised it hasn't been voted for already.

Cobo: Nothing wrong with that idea, other than it just being a lot of work to please a few tinkerers.  It would probably be best paired with something like improved bot AI.  That way I could design it that way from the ground up instead of having to rewrite a bunch of existing code to fit a multi-dll model.

I guess separating the Bot AI would be the place to start.

One more thing I have been asking for quite a lot of time, you dont have to put it up in the list, you just have to do it ;)
Link the wiki along with the forums/files/links/etc already!

EDIT:
I forgot about this...
I vote for making the client create a web server where it can display stats and other stuff.
I already did this from a tutorial that's in quakesrc, I got it to display the number of players on a server, thats as far as I got.
Only problem I saw with this is that when I joined my own server my ping was from 100-400 lol.

That'd be as simple as downloading the attachment, verifying y00tz didn't eff with it and make all the links go to porn.com, then uploading it.

I want to get some kind of account system set up for the wiki before I do that, so spam bots and trouble makers don't mess it up.  I'm also considering just using MediaWiki (what Wikipedia uses).  I wonder how hard it would be to tie that into the global login system...

I figured you were waiting until we had a lot more in the Wiki :P and I was actually going to propose you make people login with their global login or forum login after I saw so much spam last night...
I wouldn't be against using MediaWiki, I think it's a pretty solid platform.  More importantly though, there is a lot of documentation and most people are very familiar with it. And I think It would be neat if you spruced it up with your own theme and colors.

I think tying it in with the Global Login system would be pretty easy...
I assume since MediaWiki is FOSS it uses a MySQL database for login/account info
If not you could split the account info into 2 separate database, the first being the global login, the 2nd being a database created by a script once a user begins using the Wiki. (With id numbers being the keys)

If you haven't already, I think you should start a topic on the forum for the Wiki (And possibly the Global Login also) where we could discuss just that...  So that this (and other threads) can stay geared toward game development.

Cheers & Good Luck,
Mike (y00tz)

K, here's another vote :)

I got this idea after reading this post by Jitspoe:
* jitspoe suggests going to the 2007 feature vote thread and voting for something like a "vote pgp" option.

My vote is customized votes.
It would be something server side that is stored in the config files, or a file of its own. The syntax could be something like:
Code: [Select]
servervote "allpgp" "expert 8" [ratio]where "allpgp" is the name of the vote, "expert 8" is the command, and [ratio] would be optional. ratio could be something like 1/2 or 2/3, meaning that half of the players, or two thirds of the players would need to vote yes for the vote to pass.
Once the server was up, there would be 2 new commands for the players:
startvote <votename>
vote <yes/no>

Perhaps, in the future, it could even pass arguments, so this would make vote kicks and vote bans fairly easy to do.
Code: [Select]
servervote "kick" "kick {1}"So when someone did "startvote kick Cobo" it would start a vote for kicking me :).

Of course, new cvars would have to be added:
sv_votes - do you want people to vote at all?
sv_maxvotes - how many votes a person can do.
sv_timer - time to wait for the vote to pass. (could be set on the vote definition too.)

Interesting idea, Cobo.  That would certainly add some flexibility without having to make new releases (if the server admins are willing to create those configuration files).  I think something like pgp only would have to be a special case, or at least have a new command.  Expert 8 requires restarting the map, so you could vote for pgp only, but it wouldn't take effect until the next map was loaded.  In any case, I'll put you down for something like, "Configurable server setting vote system."

Yeah I like the idea of an in-game vote system to switch maps, kick players, and set gamemodes, but I think it should be modular enough that  it could be used for a lot of things... like a vote for whether or not you suspect someone is cheating, and maybe have the server record a demo of their them and upload it so the server admin can look at it later.
I don't know, it's a good idea Cobo, as long as it's very free of restriction.

Here are a few modifications I made to the DP2 source a while ago, so if you like them you can vote for them. They link to instructions on how to add them to the source.

Alias with arguments - Allows you to have arguments on the aliases, like: alias t "echo {1}". So when you do "t hello" it will echo "hello".

If conditions - Adds IF conditions to the game. The syntax is like this: if <value> <operator> <value> <command> [else <command>]. Operators can be '==' and '!='.

Toupper and Tolower commands - Adds a Toupper and a Tolower command. They are used to make all the characters in a cvar uppercase or lowercase.

Printf - This commands prints text to a cvar in a format. The syntax is: printf <cvar> <format> <...>.
     So if you do:
printf test "Lets count from 1 to 5: {1} {2} {3} {4} {5}" "One" "Two" "Three" "Four" "Five"
It will set the cvar "test" to "Lets count from 1 to 5: One Two Three Four Five"

Those sound less like additions and more like standard C functions.

Two things that I think are most important to improving the game:

1. Increased paintball visibility
2. Increased player visibility

These are two things that use to not be an issue, and have with the graphical improvements became problems (imo). Of the two I think the increased paintball visibility is the most important (albeit slightly).

I'm also for the "2." Blitz said. Somewhen i mentioned this but all said it's not of an issue. Well, i think it is. Too many black parts on the players imo.

Yes, I think that's the main problem with the player skins -- if they had more of the actual team color it wouldn't be a problem. I heard the argument that the reduced visibility was intended and adds more realism, and although I can agree on that I don't see how it enhances the game or makes it any more fun for anyone. After all, this is certainly not a game of hiding, crawling, and blending in to things -- it's extremely fast paced (and I feel like this was the general intent of quake2 to make the opponents as easily distinguishable as possible.. and something that has been lost somewhere in the updates...)
