A way to find players through the server browser? Or can you already do that?

You can see who is playing on a selected server in the stand-alone browser. But there is no "search" function. When I was in school I used Kquery4 to look for LAN games (in-game didn't go to the needed extent. Very large and complicated  LAN, etc.), and you could search for people there.

In addition to my vote to tie Global Login accounts to the forum, I'd like to expand it to include a "Primary account name"

For example, users would have to pick ONE name for the GLS that could never be changed, it would be locked in, (Forum name) so that players can never completely change their identity, they're always linked to that one name.

Any not-so-obvious cons I'm missing?

edit: I was going to post this a while back, with some more thought put into it, but I just thought I'd put it out here as a vote after reading you're response in the thread for name change requests.

Will the become the new "To do" list, or will only the ones at the top get done?

The ones at the top are going to be focused on first. First instance right jitspoe is working on faster in-game downloading.

New request

Regarding Paintball2

Perhaps when a user enters a name that is longer than 30 characters (with "fun name" characters), they could be warned that their name may not work with a clan tag.

Anohter new request

When a new member signs up on the forums direct them to a "welcome" thread where you have them post something about themselves.

Sounds like another thread I would add to my 20 or so pages of unread topics.

I vote for when the dp game opens up, you see the latest news items from the dplogin main page. What a way to integrate every pub player into the community.

Only problem is that that news is usually about a year out of date.

Hey, now.  There have been a couple news updates this year!

I think the login system is probably doing more than news updates would, anyway.

Better yet, just limit the text box entries to 30 characters so they can't even create names that are too long.

With the actual news item being shown, you could post your community polls, announce tournaments etc. More interaction between more people.  Who has ever looked at the link to the site? I didn't even notice it for half a year!

Doing more what? I don't think it would spread more news to the community than a news update when they open dp! (Does this count as a second vote then? :P)

Then the problem is the menu, now imagine something like this...

as far as having a menu option called "Website", i don't think there's really much you could do to improve it. granted, you could put it up there with play, setup and quit, and maybe then a few more people would click on it, but i'm sure the majority (or at least me) would probably learn to easily have their eyes skip right over it.

a better option would be to call the menu option something different, such as maybe "Latest Updates" or "Community" or something.

a REALLY COOL thing to do (but maybe not terribly easy) would be to have the program check an RSS/Atom feed, and show the latest stuff from the website WITHIN THE PROGRAM. i think that would also help more people to use it, because I personally wouldn't want to click on something that would make me switch out of the game and into my browser. cuz i just don't care for that.

Yes! Thats what I'm saying! If i open up dp and i get a title about a new tournament, I will most likely click it and find out more. The same goes for other community events that currently arn't even possible due to only us being able to know about them.

What would be neat would be a feed that showed the top 5 or 5 latest posts in the forums or last 5 topics posted to at the welcome screen.
