In order to edit a map in BSP it needs to be in the ".map" format and not the ".bsp" format. There is a decompiler out there somewhere, but I get artifacts when using it. Its called "WinBSP".

Also, in order for the compilers to work right you need to put the map in "C:\bsp\pball2\quake2\pball\mapfiles".

So, i copy the file (lets say jump) place it there then run the compiler. and i can still play jump in paintball2 even if its in bsp or what not?

Either using the decompiler (winBSP) or getting the source from the map maker.

Edit:

Paintball needs the ".bsp" format. So no, paintball will not be able to use the ".map" file. But the decompiler doesn't change the original file meaning that you can still play it. Hope that answered your question.

Go to the "Export" menu at the top. Those are the compilers. Different ones do different things, like ignore lighting and other things. For example, "qbsp.bat" will only convert the brushes to .bsp (this all the entities, except the light ones). "qbsp vis rad.bsp" will do what "qbsp.bat" will do, only it also tells when not to draw parts of the map (raising FPS) and compiles the lights/shadows as well. Then "Final compile.bat" will do the same thing, only take more time, thus better quality. The others do similar things, except for "Final compile (high quality).bat" which usually gives you a "memory allocation" error. ;)

...

Ok, if you don't already have it, get winBSP. Then open it up and click File | Convert... then select the .bsp file you want to convert. Then another little window will pop up, you want to convert it to a "MAP". This is also where you select where you want the program to put the file. You can put it on your desktop and copy/paste it into the "mapfiles" folder. Did I get it this time?

Though it's very important that you don't steal other people's work without their permission. What are you planning on doing with the decompiled maps?
