Ok, Paintball2 is
not a jump mod. It never was intended to be a jump mod. I don't know why people are trying to turn it into one. There's already a jump mod with an active community for which all these jump maps were designed.
Here's a tutorial on how to get it installed and start playing:
1) Download and install the Quake2 demo. I grabbed it here:
http://www.download.com/Quake-II-demo/3000-7563_4-10243475.html2) Download the Q2Jump client. Extract the files into your quake2 demo directory (where quak2.exe is):
http://q2jump.wireplay.co.uk/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=33) Make a "jump" directory in the quake2 demo directory, then make a "maps" directory under that. Move all of your quake2 jump maps from paintball2/pball/maps to q2demo/jump/maps (yes, move. They don't belong in paintball2).
4) Load up q2jump.exe, set your video preferences and controls, then type "connect 195.224.41.30:27950" at the console (or connect to the server of your choice).
How to play with paintball2.exe:
1) Create a directory called "jump" in your paintball2 directory and a "maps" directory inside of the jump directory.
2) Move all of your Quake2 jump maps from pball/maps to jump/maps (yes, move, they don't belong in paintball2).
3) Download the Quake2 demo. Install it wherever you want. Copy the players directory and pak0.pak into your new jump directory.
4) Open paintball2 and type the following at the console:
game jump
set cl_hudstyle 0
connect 195.224.41.30:27950
Note: You will end up downloading a bunch of files. Some of these may be obtained from
http://q2jump.wireplay.co.uk/. Others you will just be stuck downloading.
If you want to run a jump server with paintball2, you can download the server files and add "+set game jump" to your server command line. You will probably be better off running something like R1Q2 than paintball2, though. Really, in general, you should be using a different game engine that's more designed for Quake2 jumping, but whatever.
