If you're talking graphic lag, and not network lag, then there are two big things you can do to increase your framerate.

Bring down the console, (~), and type these three things.

r_oldmodels 1
r_reflectivewater 0
vid_restart

That should bring your framerate up quite a bit.

1.) It's cl_maxfps and not sv_maxfps :P

2.) Cutting down the FPS won't help reducing the choppiness.

yes it will....if your set to 0, your getting unlimited, setting it to 60 only gets you 60, wont go higher...

if the case is your video card is a oc....but pci express shouldn't be

cl_maxfps
(sorry for the misspell bitmate)

Description: The maximum number of packets-per-second the server should send to the client to cap the frames-per-second rate.

I'm not new :P .
Anyways, the FPS are capped at 60 by default, unless you disabled vsync.

Speaking of a choppy game, your frames must be below 40, and I don't think CAPO! set cl_maxfps to any value near to that.

i thought paintball was capped at 0, seeing is how u type cl_maxfps and it says 0, with a default .cfg

checking your dxdiag is a good idea too

goto Run, type in DXDIAG, goto Display tab, and enable

-DirectDraw Acceleration
-Direct3D Acceleration
-AGP Texture Acceleration

seeing if them are disabled may help you...

None of those will help. I'm pretty sure messing with DirectX stuff doesn't help OpenGL at all.

Go into ATI's "Control Panel": Start | Control Pannel | Display Settings | Video Settings Tab (I think. But it is the last tab) | "Advanced". Once there, click on the largest tab on the top row, it should have the ATI logo on it. Click the big button in the middle (forget what it says, but it is the only button). Once the next window loads, go under "3D settings" and set ALL of them to "Low Quality" or "Performance". If that helps, experiment a bit by turning some stuff up and such.

It might also just be a problem with both ATI and Vista having poor support for OpenGL.

He's running Vista? In that case, what I said before would not help at all, merely confuse him. Oops. In Vista:

1. Right click on desktop.
2. Click "Personalize"
3. Click "Display settings"
4. Click the "Advanced Settings..." Button
5. Click on the largest tab on the top row, it should have the ATI logo on it.
6. Click the big button in the middle
7. Set everything to "Low Quality" or "Performance"

It's not the card, it's the drivers.  You might have better luck if you just install XP on that computer.

Vista might be nice in a year or two after the bugs are worked out.

But right now XP is the way to go.
