Overclocking
« on: March 30, 2007, 09:41:37 AM »
just got coolbits 2.0 back and decided to go a tad higher in overclocking my Nvidia Geforce 6200 128MB DDR AGP8x card.

Default Core Clock Frequency was Around 358
Default Memory Clock Frequency was around 550

New Core Clock Frequency is 450
New Memory Clock Frequency is 700

testing it out, already have anisotropic set to 16x, and have high res textures enabled, i suppose turning reflective water on is the only thing left to do, right ?

-You Can Download Coolbits 2.0 here-
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=815

coolbits is just a registry string, and by using this it implements itself into the Nvidia control panel.

I feel compelled to warn, software over clocking isn't as good as tweaking your BIOS.   I wouldn't recommend anyone who is an amateur to attempt over clocking without reading a lot about it first, but software over clocking is a good start for practice.

Just to note - ForceWare is a driver for NVidia, and is required for this program, but if you don't have an NVidia card you can get the same results from ATITool (Which is for ATI and NVidia cards.)

Be careful and don't catch your cards on fire guys..

There is no point in overclocking your card if you're only playing dp. a 6200 can handle dp easily. Why not try some other free games? Like Enemy territory, FEAR, warrock or warsow?

i play FEAR also...
and i overclocked it more because of my reflective water lag...
i cant overclock my video card through bios only processor and ram

If you want to see my CPU underclocking you can look here:
http://neonpulse.net/debaser/

http://neonpulse.net/debaser/sysinfo-fried.txt
This is my sysinfo from my old motherboard, I had AMD Cool'n'Quiet enabled but it knew my CPU well so it only capped off 10MHz, left it at 2.2GHz

http://neonpulse.net/debaser/sysinfo-underclocked.txt
This is my new motherboard with AMD Cool'n'Quiet, it caps at 1GHz for some weird reason so it was useless to me since I use my CPU a lot.

http://neonpulse.net/debaser/sysinfo.txt
And this is my new motherboard with Cool'n'Quiet off, I get 10.099 MHz more than I did with it enabled on my old motherboard...lol

I'm running about 74 degrees F right now and so far this motherboard hasn't started any fires. I overclocked it a bit when messing with underclocking and all that, I might see how high I can run without running hot later.

74F? That's awfully low, even for an AMD chip

That's just motherboard temp, not the actual CPU. No idea where it takes it from exactly. My room is sometimes cold enough to see my breath...*huffs* lol ...stop snowing.

I've had lower than 19C (which is about 66F) on my CPU, right now I'm just running a stock fan though.  =P

Mine is an amd athlon 4400+ x2 2.2ghz... Toledo core...when it was like 10F at night we stuck a fan in the window and made a shroud for my cpu and let the fan blow the freezing air into my pc.... -8c is the lowest it ever got.

ive thought of an idea too, you know how you said you used the fan and the cool air form the night with the help of a shroud, this is darn near exactly what ive been telling kilo and twistdid, except, you don't use a window, you use an air conditioner, you could still let it fill the room but put a tube on one of the sides, and hook it up to the side case, where the processor draws air from the outside, then its getting constant cold air 8^)

whenever i get an air conditioner and i move my desk somewhere near the window ill do it and show you some statistics, yup yup, i can revive the dead thread 8^)
