EV1 Alternative Servers Need Testing

As most of you are aware, I purchased another server from ThePlanet because a number of people had been complaining about severe lag spikes on the gM/EV1 servers (or maybe it was just a couple people complaining loudly -- not sure which yet).  I copied all the paintball2 data over to the new server and started up several servers starting with "EV1-Alt" in the hostname.

Old EV1 server:

Please test the servers on both of these machines and let me know which ones work better.  I'll drop whichever server is worse.  For me, personally, the new alternative server pings about twice as high as EV1 (ev1 was in the 30's, alt is in the 60's).  Any information you can provide about the performance of the servers is helpful, such as pings, tracerts, and screenshots of netgraphs.  Using Graffiti Paint as a basis for comparison would also be helpful, since their servers are with the same company and are also located in Texas.

It's kind of weird that all 3 servers have completely different routing, even though they're with the same company.

I haven't done enough testing on the new server to get a feel for the netgraph.  It seems pretty stable, though, just a pixel or two higher.  I'll have to do some more testing later.


I think I may need to break this down on a case by case basis for those who have been having issues, to ensure it's actually a problem with the server and not on their end:

Wade:
Moderate lag spikes on both servers.

Apparently a restart fixed his lag issues on the alt server, so I'm thinking it might be on his end.

Skater/Cinnoman:
Recently complained about lag spikes on EV1, but realized he had torrents open and previously did not have issues with the server.  Haven't heard any updates with torrents being off.

DirtyTaco:
Complained about severe lag that made his netgraph like "mountains" on the gM server and left.  Haven't heard anything else.

Ask to get off that Cogent bandwidth.  It's a cheap-ass provider that allows IRC (never something you want for a game server).  ThePlanet offers their gaming line of servers through Insomnia365 which are peered on their premium ISPs (Above.net, Level3, NLayer), you won't find any Cogent touching those servers.

Currently, you are not on "Cogent only" bandwidth. You currently have
premium blended bandwidth from all our providers. Are you still having
bandwidth problems? I haven't heard of this being an issue before but if
you are running into problems, I would strongly recommend opening a
ticket to have our networking team look into this for you.

The "premium blended bandwidth" concerns me.  Sounds like it could be switching providers mid-play (ev1 could be doing that, too, thus causing the spikes while it switches).  Have you tested the alt servers to make sure they don't lag, too?

I've played on the Alt Servers a couple of times and never had any problems with lag or anything. They seemed to run just as well as the Grafitti Servers.
