Screen Resolutions
« on: May 07, 2007, 02:50:18 PM »
The problem of my menus not working in some of the lower resolutions was brought up the other day. So, what is the lowest resolution that you use on a regular basis? (1024x800 is the highest because that is my screen resolution, and I will not make a menu that doesn't fit it)

I have been using 1024x768, and though my performance is fine as for fps, I was considering using smaller just to make the people bigger :)

What is the result if you lower the resolution but up the FOV?

Actually it appears setting the resolution lower doesn't seem to change the view much.

Well i only have a 15" monitor, using 1024x768 looks great, also using my standard fov of 130 makes everything look cool.

1024 x 768 seems to give me a good image without ever dropping below my refresh rate. So I suppose I will keep it at that.

Playing in a window makes it rather lower though.

So if I do that I would switch to 800x600 or 960x720

That question is worded kind of weird.  "What's the lowest screen resolution that you use?" and "What's the resolution you use on a regular basis?" typically aren't the same thing.  I use the low resolutions fairly frequently when testing stuff.  I actually got in the habit of playing in a 640x480 window for years, so that's what I voted for, however I have sometimes used smaller resolutions for testing purposes -- particularly if I needed to have the game running multiple times.  Now, though, the resolution I use on a regular basis is 1280x960.

I assume that in full screen the major difference is just the quality of image?

The higher the screen resolution the smaller and more detailed it looks. The bigger the screen resolution the bigger and more fuzzy it looks.

Edit: I play with 1024x768 at home and I think like 1280x960 (or something like that) at shcool.

Well the only reason I would switch resolution so far is to play in a window while watching tv on my tuner card.

I use 800x600 so I get more FPS and I set the hudscale to 1 so that it is small

Well, I've decided to make all of my menus fit the 640x480 screen resolution. They can be found in my menu thread.
