A parfume if her current one is nearly empty, ear rings, socks or a special selection of flowers which doesn't have to be big.

Gift ideas:
Dig through eBay for a lost artifact from her youth.
Breakfast in bed never gets old.
Spend a day with mom.
Antique jewelry.
Brunch.
Write her a poem.
Have flowers delivered. (A woman at my old office got flowers everyday of the week, is was so obnoxious but you could tell he cared)

Oh no, I used to live in Seattle, the best city on earth, I meant lucky her... :P  Yeah that does suck you guys aren't close, is it driving distance?
